Cardiff City won their first game of the 2022-23 EFL Championship season 1-0 against Norwich City at the Cardiff City Stadium on 30th July. Debutant Romaine Sawyers scored the only goal of the match, and it came four minutes after the restart. Both teams were also down to 10 players by the end of the game.
Cardiff City lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation. In goal was Ryan Allsop and supporting him was a back-four of Mahlon Romero, Perry Ng (who was sent off), Cedric Kipre and Jamilu Collins. Captain Ryan Wintie shielded the backline. Max Watters operated as the lone striker. Norwich City, on the other hand, opted for the 4-2-3-1 formation, with Tim Krul in goal and a back-four of Max Aarons, Andrew Omobamidele, skipper Grant Hanley (who was sent off) and Dimitrios Giannoulis. Jacob Sorensen and Kenny McClean anchored the midfield, and the front-four were Todd Cantwell, Josh Sargent, Teemu Pukki and Milot Rashica.
