Dejphon Chansiri was ‘shamed’ at the Racecourse, Sheffield Wednesday managed one ‘remarkable’ feat vs Wrexham

After being the centre of attention for some time, Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has been told that he was left ‘shamed’ after the fight shown by the players.

Sheffield Wednesday drew with Wrexham as they got their first points on the board of the 2025/26 Championship season.

After trailing 2-0 at the break, with former Blade Kieffer Moore opening his Wrexham account, before latching onto a second after a mistake by emergency goalkeeper signing Ethan Horvath, Sheffield Wednesday did the unthinkable.

Coming up against a club that have been significantly backed in the summer window was always going to be a major challenge for Henrik Pedersen’s side, but Sheffield Wednesday mounted an incredible comeback, courtesy of goals by Barry Bannan and Bailey Cadamarteri, with Charlie McNeill coming close to sealing the win at the death.

It was a performance that reminded Sheffield Wednesday fans, if they needed it, that the current crop of players have already shown their fight after a summer of turmoil, and today’s performance helped to shame the situation they have been put in.

Alan Biggs slams Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri after ‘remarkable’ Owls performance

Sheffield Wednesday’s draw against Wrexham may just be a first point on the board in the grand scheme of things, but it is a sign that the current Owls side can defy expectations, even when put through the wringer.

The Owls’ first team has been fully disbanded, with several key players moving on, and much of this leads back to the unsatisfactory way that the club has been run during the tenure of Dejphon Chansiri.

Sheffield Wednesday have been set up for failure this season after a summer of difficulties, but they proved many wrong with their showing at the Racecourse Ground.

Reflecting on the draw, Alan Biggs on X wrote: “Sounds like Sheffield Wednesday’s management & players shamed the way the club has been run with that remarkable fightback today. It means there is heart & soul in the dressing room. The offices too. Doesn’t mean it’s anywhere else.”

Henrik Pedersen will be keen to build on the top Owls’ performance

The second half was close to vintage Sheffield Wednesday, with Barry Bannan running the show in the centre of the park.

With plenty to take from the top performance, Henrik Pedersen will be hoping to build on that in the upcoming games.

Wrexham, like Sheffield Wednesday, may be winless in the Championship after a challenging start to the campaign, but they have spent significantly this summer and are in a far better financial position than the Owls. It just shows that, despite the difficulties, Sheffield Wednesday continue to defy expectations.

Whatever happens this season, it is by no means on the players. Previous months with unpaid wages, uncertainty over their future, and the looming reality that the owner is not giving the club a helping hand in the transfer window – all of that just shows how incredible Sheffield Wednesday’s performance was, and hopefully there will be more to come.
