Regis Le Bris has ready-made Wembley team talk for Sunderland heroes after brilliant Sky Sports summary

Sunderland booked their place in the Championship play-off final in unbelievable fashion on Tuesday evening, as they defeated Coventry City 3-2 over two legs in the semi-final.

With the Sky Blues leading heading into the dying moments of extra-time, it looked as though penalties were on their way. However, an excellent Enzo Le Fee corner was headed in superbly by Dan Ballard to send the Stadium of Light into a state of chaos.

They will now face Sheffield United at Wembley for a place in the Premier League in 2025/26, and preparations will already be under way to ensure that the Black Cats are ready for the battle in London on May 24.

Regis Le Bris will have a huge team talk in the changing room to conduct later this month, but after such a dramatic moment, it may have already been written out for him.

Gary Weaver excellently demonstrates what Sunderland must be told at Wembley

Sunderland know all about Championship play-off pain, but Tuesday was one to celebrate as they were finally on the right end of a late goal in the competition and supporters will already be planning their day out in the capital.

However, for Le Bris, it’s the biggest moment of his EFL career and he has to ensure that his players are up for the challenge that awaits them.

While reporting, Sky Sports commentator Gary Weaver perfectly summarised what the Frenchman has to tell his Sunderland team before kick-off in just under two weeks.

He said: “Sunderland have been waiting for heroes to feel at home, wearing that heavy shirt and make this club great again, to stand with the greats again, they could be the players. One. Game. Away.

“Wembley, where the football gods live, where icons are created and tears fall, it will decide Sunderland’s destiny, Sunderland’s fate.”

Weaver continued: “For Coventry City it’s the play-off pain, for Sunderland, it’s Wembley. Chris Wilder and Sheffield United will be eyeballing them, waiting at Wembley’s entrance hall, waiting for Sunderland to make their way in. One of them will be going to the Premier League.

“One more game. One more game. Sunderland are ready to invade the nation’s capital again, Trafalgar Square better be ready, Wembley better be ready, Sunderland are heading there in a Championship play-off final.”

The pressure has to be put on Sheffield United at Wembley

After a poor run of form in the run-in, Sunderland had to find a way to bounce back in the play-offs, and they have done so excellently despite not being at their best in either game.

The Black Cats have to find a way to transfer the pressure that will come ahead of the final on to Sheffield United, who were dominant against Bristol City over the course of two legs in the semi-final.

Luke O’Nien has already warned the Blades that Sunderland will be up for the challenge that is coming and Le Bris knows that the bounce of the last-minute tie winning header will only help motivate his team to promotion.
