Birmingham City troll Wrexham with hilarious points tally jibe after smashing the EFL record

Birmingham City ended their time in League One on a high as they broke another record, by picking up their 34th victory of the season against Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium.

It meant that the champions finished the campaign on 111 points, the most in an EFL season, and they return to the Championship after just one year in the third tier of English football.

Lukas Jutkiewicz made his final ever appearance for Blues, being involved in Birmingham’s winner as he forced Kelland Watts to turn into his own net from close range to secure the win for the away side in Cambridgeshire.

It was a near-perfect end to an incredible year for Chris Davies and his team, which led to superb celebrations on the pitch and in the stands, before their social media admin took aim at runners-up Wrexham following a post of their own.

Birmingham City take aim at Wrexham after recording 111 point season

Blues broke Wolverhampton Wanderers’ third tier points record of 103, that was set in 2013/14, back in April and they have gone from strength to strength in the last couple of weeks.

Despite their success, Simon Jordan has criticised owner Tom Wagner, but supporters will take no notice of outside noise for the time being and they will be looking forward to returning to the Championship after a year away.

They will be taking Wrexham along with them, who secured their third successive promotion, completing their rise from the National League to the second tier. They also reached 111 points during that first campaign, leading to the Red Dragons posting about that occasion.

However, Birmingham were quick to reply with their own post, and they got one back over their promotion rivals as they prepare to meet once again next season.

Blues finished 19 points ahead of Phil Parkinson’s team, and they were more than happy to point that out to the Welsh side on X as well as the fact that their record was set in non-league.

Birmingham City will be looking to take the Championship by storm

Life in League One has been a lot more comfortable for Birmingham than it has been for many others in the past, and they have breezed their way to promotion.

Their financial strength has helped, and Blues will spend heavily in the Championship to help push up towards their dream of returning to the Premier League after more than a decade away from the division.

Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton will all prove to be tough competition for Birmingham following their relegation, while the likes of Sheffield United and Coventry City will also be dangerous if they fail to win promotion through the play-offs.

Nevertheless, this season will live long in the memories of supporters at St. Andrew’s and they will be looking forward to returning to the division that the league that caused heartbreak 12 months ago.
