Sheffield United earned their place in the Championship play-off final in style on Monday evening, as they ran out 6-0 winners on aggregate over Bristol City.

The Blades went into the second leg with a healthy margin over the Robins, having won 3-0 at Ashton Gate on Thursday but Liam Manning’s side came out of the blocks quickly and they looked to put pressure on Michael Cooper’s goal.

Nevertheless, Sheffield United dug in and slowly started to gain control of the game before they finally broke the deadlock in S2. Kieffer Moore, whose first leg impact was praised, headed in to ease any nerves at Bramall Lane before Gustavo Hamer got in on the act just after half-time.

Callum O’Hare finished off a sublime Blades goal in the final 10 minutes to secure a record Championship play-off victory, and now Chris Wilder and his players await the outcome of Coventry City and Sunderland’s clash. For Monday’s third goal scorer, there is the possibility of meeting his former club.

Callum O’Hare weighs in on the possibility of a Sheffield United vs Coventry City final

Two years ago, O’Hare and Hamer helped the Sky Blues through to the Championship play-off final where they were beaten on penalties by Luton Town.

24 months later, the pair are now playing their football in South Yorkshire, hoping to end Sheffield United’s play-off hoodoo.

The Blades have lost out in all nine of their previous play-off campaigns, and with the emotion of potentially meeting his former team in at Wembley, O’Hare was quizzed on the issue following the final whistle.

He said: “It is what it is, it’ll be a good game.

“I watched their game the other day [Friday] and obviously the play tomorrow [Tuesday], I think everyone in there will be watching and seeing who it is.”

O’Hare continued: “But, either way we just want to go out there and enjoy ourselves and we want to be the ones that go up, as they’ll be the ones that want to go up as well, that’s what we play football for.

“It’ll be a good game, a good atmosphere and good luck to them tomorrow. We’ll see what happens.”

Callum O’Hare is finally being rewarded for his patience in front of goal

O’Hare has found it tough to get among the goals over the course of this season, finding the back of the net just twice in 44 Championship appearances.

However, he has finally started to have that little bit of luck that he has deserved, scoring two in his last two in the play-offs and while they have not had a major impact on the overall result, it is clear to see he is full of confidence.

Frank Lampard, who is looking to repeat history in the semi-finals on Tuesday will have been informed of what to expect from the midfielder if his Coventry side do progress and there could be a very interesting battle on the cards if the Sky Blues find a way past Sunderland.

Nevertheless, O’Hare’s full focus will be on preparing for Wembley, no matter who the opponent is, as Sheffield United look for an instant return to the Premier League.
