Legendary Championship manager Neil Warnock has lifted the lid on his previous conversation with one Premier League boss about the challenges of coaching at a high level.
As the man with the most EFL games managed, standing at 1,626, and the highest tally of promotions, there is nobody quite as revered outside of the Premier League as Neil Warnock.
With a total of 17 clubs managed in his illustrious career, Warnock has settled into a deserved retirement, but still has opportunities to drop golden nuggets of insight into his career that spanned as far back as 1980.
The legendary EFL man has accumulated a wealth of knowledge in the game, whether it was his time at Sheffield United or Warnock’s promotion to the Premier League with Cardiff City.
In his latest appearance on Sky Sports, Warnock has reflected on his conversation with one Premier League manager and the drawbacks of coaching at a high level.

Neil Warnock discusses previous conversation with Man City boss Pep Guardiola
Man City boss Pep Guardiola has long been an admirer of Neil Warnock in English football, and since the pair have struck up a friendship, having conversations about the trials and tribulations of coaching.
Warnock spoke on Sky Sports about the challenges that the Spaniard has faced in recent times of his career, and has even urged the Premier League winner to do one thing whilst at Man City.
“It’s nice for a manager like him, because he’s so high profile, isn’t he, to switch off because I do feel at that level now, it is so intense,” said Warnock. “I watched them train the day before a match, and he’s got these top players and everybody knows [what they’re doing].
“I know he’s had to adjust this year, but he’ll come back again. I know that they lost last week as well, but he’s changing it again, and you can see what he is trying to do. A brilliant manager he is.”
Discussing the conversation he previously had with Guardiola, Warnock said: “It’s a lonely job being a manager, so I think he enjoyed talking to me a little bit and probably made him laugh a bit, it’s nice to have a bit of humour.”

Neil Warnock’s illustrious Championship record
The 76-year-old Sheffield-born former coach conjured up an incredible record in the Championship since its rebrand, managing 529 games in the second tier since 2004/05 with the Blades.
In those 529 contests, Warnock managed to win on 224 occasions, drawing a further 147 games.
With three automatic promotions to the Premier League with QPR, Cardiff City and Sheffield United, nobody comes close to how much Warnock has shone in the Championship and left an impact on so many clubs in England.
