Coventry City can say they played a huge part in the development of Viktor Gyokeres.
Gyokeres is one of the most in-demand strikers in world football after his excellent stint at Sporting Club in Portugal over the last two seasons and is widely expected to leave this summer.
The Sweden international scored his 53rd goal of the season and 96th in 101 games for Sporting as they claimed the Liga Portugal title.
Any move he makes will secure Coventry an added pay day thanks to a sell-on clause they included in the deal back in 2023.
But, due to something Sporting did in the 2024 summer transfer window, they won’t receive as much money as they would’ve expected.

Sporting reduced Viktor Gyokeres’ sell-on fee by five per cent
When Coventry made the decision to sell Gyokeres, a 15 per cent sell-on clause was included.
That meant that 15 per cent of any profit made on the £20m Coventry received from the initial Gyokeres deal would be pocketed.
However, last summer, Sporting paid the Championship club €1m (£843,500) thanks to the 26-year-old hitting certain objectives.
As a result, the sell-on clause in his current deal has been reduced to 10 per cent, meaning they will receive slightly less than expected.
How much would Coventry City receive from Viktor Gyokeres deal?
Reports have suggested that Gyokeres’ Sporting contract contains a clause worth £84m.
If he was to leave for that fee, with Arsenal and Manchester United the two most likely destinations, Coventry would receive 10 per cent of the initial fee – which in this case would be £6.4m.
Any money would be a bonus for Coventry and with Frank Lampard’s side falling to defeat in the Championship play-off semi-final, the chance to improve and go one step further is wanted by all affiliated to the club.
The Sky Blues have been tipped to do well next season and those extra funds could secure the players they need to reach the Premier League.
