Sheffield Wednesday had a rollercoaster of a 2024/25 campaign, with Danny Rohl helping to take the team out of relegation contention and towards the fight for the play-offs.
While he was never quite able to get the Owls over the line, it was a vast improvement on the 2023/24 season at Hillsborough, as without their German manager, they would have been playing in League One.

Nevertheless, with Rohl’s future at Sheffield Wednesday uncertain, the next couple of months could be very difficult for the South Yorkshire outfit and there are plenty of decisions to be made by owner Dejphon Chansiri.
That includes who will be playing in goal for the Owls once August comes around, with Brighton revealing their position on James Beadle’s next move.
Sheffield Wednesday fans will be disappointed by Brighton’s James Beadle stance
The goalkeeper has spent the last year-and-a-half in S6 after spending the first portion of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Oxford United.

He has done excellently with Sheffield Wednesday, but the final weeks of his stay with the club were a little bit shaky as he started to feel the pressure of Pierce Charles – an exciting, young talent.
According to The Star, the Seagulls are looking elsewhere for the next step in Beadle’s career after he failed to make an appearance in the Owls’ final eight matches and with minutes at Hillsborough may not guaranteed next season.
Furthermore, with it looking as though Rohl will move on in the summer, the Premier League side may want to send their future star to a club with more stability where Beadle will face a different sort of challenge.
It is imperative that Pierce Charles stays with the Owls
With it looking unlikely that Sheffield Wednesday will be able to keep hold of their loan star, Charles’ importance to the team has been increased greatly and Dejphon Chansiri cannot afford to bow down to Premier League pressure in the transfer window.
The Owls will already be looking for a replacement back-up shot-stopper, and to be looking for two in the same summer will be costly for both financial and time reasons.
Charles is the subject of Premier League interest, and he will be vying for a move if a team does submit a bid and Sheffield Wednesday could be in a world of trouble if this happens.
The next few months could be worrying for Owls supporters, and they must hope that they can entice their academy graduate to stick with the club for the next year at the very least.
