The World Cup is heading to America in 2026, with the home nation looking to make an impact under head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

While MLS has grown in recent years, some of the USMNT hopefuls have made their way to England to try and gain a different type of experience.

The Championship is no stranger to those stars who have made their way across the pond to feature, with nine stars on the radar for the USA during the 2025/26 season.

All USA players featuring in the EFL Championship for 2025/26

Josh Sargent

Josh Sargent is undoubtedly one of the best forwards in the Championship, having proved himself over many seasons for Norwich City.

The 25-year-old, who has nearly 30 appearances for the USMNT, came through with Saint Louis before making the move to Werder Bremen.

Sargent’s eventual switch to Norwich came in 2021, where he has made over 130 appearances with over 60 goal involvements across all competitions.

The striker has been in and out of the USA side in the past year, but could look to be involved for the coming World Cup.

Haji Wright

Another impressive American forward in the Championship is Haji Wright, who has been a star for Coventry since his switch from Antalyaspor.

The 27-year-old, who was born in Los Angeles, has already played around the world, featuring in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and then Turkey before he moved to England.

With two campaigns of consistent goal returns, Wright will be looking to earn promotion with Coventry at the third time of asking, while a place at the World Cup could await him.

Patrick Agyemang

While Wright and Sargent are two of the more experienced bagsmen from the USA in the Championship, there could be a few following in their footsteps.

Patrick Agyemang is looking to barge his way into the conversation for the USMNT starting number nine position, following his move from Charlotte to Derby County.

Mauricio Pochettino did hand the 24-year-old a few starts during the Gold Cup, while there could be more in the future.

While he is dealing with an injury early on in the campaign, Agyemang could announce himself to English football soon enough.

Damion Downs

Damion Downs is another young forward looking to make his mark in the Championship, having joined Southampton over the summer.

The 21-year-old was born in Germany, but represents the USA on the international stage, having made five appearances already.

Downs came through the youth system at Koln, going on to make 42 appearances for the club before joining the Saints.

Caleb Wiley

Chelsea starlet Caleb Wiley is spending the season on loan at Watford with the aim of gaining plenty more experience.

The 20-year-old, who already has three appearances for the USMNT, started off at Atalanta before he joined the Blues.

A season on loan with Strasbourg didn’t bring about many appearances for the left-back, but now the Hornets will be looking to tap into his potential.

Aidan Morris

Middlesbrough star Aidan Morris is a regular in the midfield, ever since making the move from Columbus Crew in 2024.

The 23-year-old already has nine international caps to his name, something he will look to build on in the coming months as the World Cup draws closer.

Daryl Dike

Continuing the trend of American strikers in the Championship is West Brom star Daryl Dike.

The 25-year-old has endured a pretty tough time at the Hawthorns since making the move from Orlando in 2022.

Dike has suffered with injuries throughout his career with the Baggies, but there is some hope that the new season could bring about fresh fortunes for a dangerous player when he is available.

George Campbell

Another USMNT ace at West Brom is George Campbell, who joined from Montreal in the summer of 2025.

The centre-back has made just the one appearance for the US national team, but could look to build on that with some game time in the Championship.

Charlie Kelman

Rounding off the group is Charlie Kelman, who made a switch from QPR to Charlton in the summer 2025 transfer window.

While the 23-year-old was born in Basildon, England, he has received call-ups for the US youth national teams.

Kelman is waiting to make his senior debut for the side, but he could be on the radar after an impressive spell on loan in League One with Leyton Orient last season.

If the striker can take that form into the Championship with Charlton, his World Cup hopes could be met.
