There are several ways a player can depart a club when it comes to professional football, and not all of them are pleasant, as one former Ipswich Town ace discovered.
While there can be pretty straightforward deals where both the club and player agree to go their separate ways, this is not always possible.
As witnessed in the summer transfer window with Alexander Isak, there can sometimes be a standoff between the player and the club in an exit.
However, there are also times when the player can feel they are being pushed out of the club as they are placed in the underage teams to train, with it being obvious that they are not wanted.
For one former Ipswich Town ace, he has revealed exactly how his exit from the club transpired and why it left him angry.
Vemund Brekke Skard was angry he agreed to cancel his Ipswich Town contract
Vemund Brekke Skard joined Ipswich Town in 2006 and would only feature in three matches for the Tractor Boys during his spell in England.
It was not a successful spell for the Norwegian player, as he agreed to cancel his contract once Jim Magilton was appointed manager, replacing Joe Royle.
Speaking with the East Anglian Daily Times about his exit, he said: “I was a bit surprised, as I thought I did okay in the pre-season, but Jim told me, ‘I don’t want to use you, as we have some younger players we want to develop, and it’s better if you go somewhere else.’

“I was angry with myself for many years after leaving the club because I wish I said no about cancelling my contract early, and even if I had been put in the youth team, I should’ve pushed to stay.
“It was a really nice experience, and it’s not often that a player in the Norwegian third level gets this opportunity, so I should be very happy.”

Vemund Brekke Skard on Ipswich Town’s latest Norwegian signing
Ipswich Town have only ever had three Norwegians represent the club, with Skard being one of them, the other two being Jonny Parr and Sindre Walle Egeli.
The latter is a summer signing with much expected from him due to the large price tag that accompanies him, with Ipswich spending £17.5 million on him.

Skard has let his thoughts be known upon the latest Norwegian star at Ipswich, as he said: “I hope he has more success than I had!
“It’s nice to see another Norwegian play for Town. I don’t know much about him, but hopefully he can be a good player for the club.”
