Yes, we know the international break is a pain, but while it does bring the Championship to a standstill it doesn’t have to ruin all the fun in the EFL.
We are only four games into the new Championship season and already second tier players are jetting off for international duty.
With no games to look forward to for Championship fans this weekend, you might think you’ll have to sit down and watch international football instead – but it doesn’t have to be that way!
Let’s not forget, plenty of teams in League One and League Two are still slugging it out this weekend, and we’ve picked out five tantalising ties to keep you entertained.

Five EFL fixtures to watch during the international break
Plymouth Argyle vs Stockport County
With three wins, two draws, and one defeat, Stockport County sit just outside the League One play-off places after six games. Dave Challinor’s men have picked up where they left off last season and look like real contenders again in 2025/26.
The Opta supercomputer has tipped Stockport to win the title, which is something Plymouth Argyle fans would have been dreaming of at the start of the season.
Argyle, in contrast, have been poor this year under Tom Cleverley. A big win in midweek in the Vertu Trophy could lift spirits, though, and if they’re at their best we could witness a real clash of the titans here.
It’s early days, but the momentum generated by a win in this potential six-pointer could be huge.
Doncaster Rovers vs Bradford City
Two of the clubs promoted from League Two go head-to-head on Saturday afternoon as Doncaster Rovers host Bradford City. They’re both in amazing form, too, which makes this Yorkshire derby even more exciting than normal.
Bradford are on a record-setting unbeaten run of nine games in all competitions and sit in third place. Meanwhile, Rovers are just behind them in the table after suffering just one defeat since stepping back into the third tier.
We had anticipated both teams could be surprise packages this season (as you can see from our League One predictions) but we never expected they would hit the ground running so soon. All things considered, this could be the game of the weekend.
Bolton Wanderers vs AFC Wimbledon
Bolton Wanderers have got off to a rough start in the league, claiming just one win so far. They find themselves two points and two places behind newly-promoted AFC Wimbledon, who have managed three wins, but also suffered three defeats.
It’s an unpredictable one this. If Bolton turn up and do what we all know they’re capable of, they could cruise to victory, but football isn’t played on paper, and Wimbledon will be eager to cause an upset.

Walsall vs Chesterfield
We move to League Two now, and this weekend will see two of last season’s defeated play-off teams clash in an early promotion six-pointer. Walsall host Chesterfield, with the Spireites flying in second place and the Saddlers sitting in the play-off spots.
Home advantage could be crucial for Walsall here, and Chesterfield are coming off the back of a massive 7-1 defeat to Crewe Alexandra in midweek. Will that leave the Yorkshire outfit feeling down and out, or will they be even more desperate to bounce back?
MK Dons vs Grimsby Town
With the amount of business done by Paul Warne this summer, you’d expect MK Dons to be running away with the League Two title already. He’s brought in players like Callum Paterson and more recently Kane Wilson, who frankly, belong in the Championship.
They’re not doing bad, and currently occupy the final play-off spot, but MK Dons will want and need to improve quickly if they are to achieve the primary aim of winning the league.
Meanwhile, Grimsby Town are just behind them in the table, and after their incredible win over Man Utd in the Carabao Cup, we’ll all be watching the Mariners a little more closely.
