Bristol City travel to West Yorkshire to face Leeds United, with Liam Manning’s side still in fifth place despite playing a game less than their play-off rivals.
Middlesbrough’s draw, Coventry City’s defeat, and wins for Blackburn Rovers and Millwall have tightened things up ahead of the final day of the season on Saturday, but not before a trip to Elland Road for Liam Manning.

The last clash against Leeds was a 0-0 draw at Ashton Gate but the Whites have taken 55 points from 22 games at home this season, with no one coming even close to their level of dominance in home fixtures.
The Robins haven’t won at Elland Road since 1979, making Leeds one of their bogey teams. Anything can happen in football, but the majority of punters will be expecting a home win in the Luke Ayling derby.

Winning away to Leeds United could send a play-off statement for Bristol City
It won’t be an easy game by any means against a Leeds side who have already been promoted, with Leeds now able to play with freedom and express themselves in search of the title. There is no guarantee that they will do that, though.
Leeds have less pressure with promotion secured, but Bristol City could seal their play-off place with a win to Daniel Farke’s impressive machine to escape Championship football in 2025/26.
What if Bristol City win away to Leeds?
If Bristol City become only the second side to win all season against Leeds, then the maths is simple: Bristol City will guarantee their play-off place before even kicking a ball against Preston North End on Saturday.
Coventry and Millwall could only reach 69 points, and one win puts the Robins on 70 to guarantee a place and also fifth spot in the process — meaning they will face Sunderland in the semi-finals.
What if Bristol City draw against Leeds?
If Bristol City draw at Elland Road, then things become more complicated for them. They would not be mathematically secure given that both Millwall and Coventry can reach 67 points.
A draw to Preston on final day would most likely secure them a play-off place, with Coventry able to overtake them if they thrash Middlesbrough and Millwall would need to win away at Turf Moor (which no side has achieved) by eight goals or more.
Two draws would make a play-off berth assured, while a draw and a win against Preston would also achieve fifth. A draw and a defeat allows each of Cov, Millwall, and Blackburn to overtake if results go against Manning and co.
What if Bristol City lose vs Leeds?
A defeat to Leeds would pile the pressure onto their final day fixture with Preston. They could, conceivably, lose both and make the top six, but it would allow everyone from Middlesbrough upwards to overtake them and they could finish as low as ninth.
A defeat and a draw could be enough on 68, but it would realistically take a win to get to 70 and make Manning’s men out of reach of every single side below them.
In conclusion: 70 points or more is a play-off place, 69 almost certainly is one, and 68 or 67 is unlikely to be enough without numerous results going their way.

Bristol City have a miserable record against Leeds in recent history
One of the issues Bristol City will need to overcome to take anything from Elland Road is a truly terrible historic record against Leeds, especially in recent years playing in the second tier.
Leeds are unbeaten in their past 10 league games against Bristol City, drawing two and losing eight. That is since a 1-0 loss at Ashton Gate back in September 2016.
Since 1979, they have lost every away trip to Leeds bar one. Leeds also have the motivation to go out and win the title after seeing Burnley’s 5-0 win away to QPR on Saturday.
Bristol City have lost eight of their past nine away league games against Leeds, with their last draw coming in February 2018. The omens don’t look particularly good for that changing, either.
That’s because Bristol City have won just one of their past 14 away league games. Their home form has catapulted them into play-off contention in the main, with a 2-0 victory coming at Millwall back in March.
