The Championship title race will still need to be decided regardless of the result here at Turf Moor, but we do know that, if Burnley win against Sheffield United, the Clarets will almost certainly condemn the Blades to the play-offs.

Scott Parker’s relentless Burnley side have made history this season, from an astounding number of clean sheets, to an unbeaten run stretching back to November.

Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United side, however, hit a poor run of form at the wrong time, but they got back on track against Cardiff City on Friday.

Burnley and Sheffield United team news

Burnley have a few players that we are unlikely to see again this season, with Lyle Foster, Enoch Agyei, Jonjo Shelvey, and Bashir Humphreys all out until May.

Aaron Ramsey has been out since last year with an ACL injury, while Jordan Beyer’s hamstring issue will keep him out of action for some time.

Clarets fans have barely seen Mike Tresor this season, who has featured just once in the FA Cup. The same goes for Manuel Benson, who showed signs of a recovery in February, but his Achilles issue reoccurred shortly after.

As for Sheffield United, captain Ollie Arblaster is not likely to feature again in 2024/25, while Jamie Shackleton is in a similar position due to his foot injury that has kept him out of action since December.

Tom Davies and Rhys Norrington-Davies are both expected back by the end of April, so this clash with Burnley will come too soon for them.

Burnley and Sheffield United head-to-head record

Over the years, Burnley and Sheffield United have come to blows 132 times. The Blades have a slight edge with 52 wins to Burnley’s 48, while there has been 32 draws between the two sides.

In the recent past, we’ve generally seen pretty close contests between these two, with the home side often prevailing.

However, there have been some anomalous results, including the Blades smashing Burnley 5-2 in the Championship back in 2022, and Burnley more than returning the favour in the Premier League with a 5-0 and 4-1 double over United.

Across the last ten games, Burnley have won five, Sheffield United have won three, and there have been two draws. But, the Clarets are on a four-game winning streak against Wilder’s men.

They’ll be looking to complete the double for the season on Monday, and put themselves in the driving seat when it comes to the promotion race.

The final run-in for the top three all comes down to this. History and form will largely go out of the window in many ways, with the mentality on the day all that will matter.

Burnley vs Sheffield United score prediction

As much as Sheffield United will give this a really good go, it’s just difficult to see Burnley conceding a goal never mind dropping points. They’re at home, feeling confident, and know they can essentially secure promotion with a win or even a draw.

It’ll be tight, cagey, and come down to just one goal either way. We’ll go for a 2-1 Burnley win, with United potentially having just enough to push the Clarets to the wire, but ultimately falling short.
