While Middlesbrough are struggling in the Championship, Finn Azaz has been tearing it up on international duty for Ireland this week.
Boro were held to a 0-0 draw at the hands of a relegation-battling Luton Town in their last Championship fixture.
This left Middlesbrough on a run of just three wins from nine in 2025 so far, while Michael Carrick’s men have dropped to eighth in the division.

Their decline and inability to climb back inside the top six comes despite Finn Azaz being one of the Championship’s best players.
The 24-year-old’s 10 goals and 11 assists in the league this term have been crucial and he’s now carried that form over into the March international break.

Ireland fans praise Middlesbrough’s Finn Azaz after Bulgaria
Ireland travelled to the Hristo Botev Stadium on March 20th for a Nations League meeting with Bulgaria.
They were able to come out on top after Azaz scored an equaliser in the 21st minute before Matt Doherty made it 2-1 shortly before the break.
Following the victory, Ireland fans have taken to social media to heap praise on the Middlesbrough midfielder.
One fan wrote: “Finn Azaz is some player,” while a second added: “Finn Azaz = Bruno Fernandes.”
Another claimed: “Finn Azaz might be the second coming of Lionel Messi.”
And a fourth fan simply wrote after the Middlesbrough man scored his first international goal: “I adore Finn Azaz.”
The Boro star even had one Newcastle United supporter writing: “Finn Azaz is a top player.”
A sixth stated: “Finn Azaz, you’ve been outstanding, son,” while a seventh continued the praise: “That’s the best I’ve seen Ireland play in a while, but it is Bulgaria. Azaz is playing terrific, dropping off lovely to pick up some nice ball. Could we see an away win?”
How National media reacted to Finn Azaz after Ireland beat Bulgaria
After scoring his first goal for Ireland, Azaz earned himself a well-deserved Man of the Match award.
RTE Sport gave the midfielder an 8 rating and wrote: “The Middlesbrough man was involved in almost every positive Irish attack in the first half.
“Got through loads of graft playing off Parrott while also providing composure and quality in possession. The 24-year-old’s best performance yet for Ireland.”
The Irish Sun Sport also awarded him an 8 and stated: “Selected in midfield but practically a striker as he pushed forward and picked up pockets of space. Nice goal and always a threat.”
