Jamie Vardy has confirmed that he will leave Leicester City at the end of the season.

Vardy, a Leicester legend, has been at the club for 13 seasons and has been a part of the Foxes’ most successful period.

Joining in 2012, the 38-year-old was the most expensive player in non-league history at the time, signing for £1m.

Since then, the forward has won two Championship titles, one Premier League, an FA Cup and Community Shield.

But, after Leicester were relegated to the second tier for the second time in three seasons, Vardy has called it a day.

Jamie Vardy’s first words since confirming Leicester departure

In a video posted to Leicester’s social media channels, Vardy confirmed ‘the time was right’ to say goodbye to the club he has made so many memories with.

He said: “To the fans of Leicester, I’m gutted this day is coming, but I knew it would come eventually.

“After 13 years, lots of success, some downs but the majority, all highs, it’s finally time to call it a day.

“I think the timing is right. I sincerely thank you all for taking me in as one of your own.

“Leicester will always have a place in my heart. As for now, this is my goodbye, but you will see me soon I promise.”

The Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha also commented, speaking on the club website, saying: “Jamie is unique. He is a special player and an even more special person. He holds a place in the hearts of everyone connected to Leicester City, and he certainly has my deepest respect and affection. I am endlessly grateful for everything he has given to this Football Club.

“Although Jamie’s time with us as a player is ending, he and his family will always be welcomed back to King Power Stadium with open arms after all he has achieved. On behalf of everyone at Leicester City, I wish Jamie and his family the very best for the future and I know our supporters will join us in giving him the send-off he deserves at the end of this season.”
