John Eustace thinks ‘exceptional’ player Wrexham want to sign has a ‘huge future in the game’

Wrexham became the first team in the top five divisions of English football to win three successive promotions, and now, on their return to the second tier, their Premier League dream is in sight.

Under the highly ambitious Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, Wrexham have already begun preparations for the 2025/26 Championship campaign.

Wrexham captured Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle as their first signing of the summer transfer window. The 28-year-old is a proven striker in the second tier, having fired double figures in his previous two campaigns.

But to compete with the Championship promotion-chasers, Phil Parkinson knows that signing Premier League talent is necessary. Wrexham have been linked with Tommy Doyle from Wolves, though EFL Analysis revealed that Birmingham are leading the race for Doyle as it stands.

Luckily, the 23-year-old isn’t the only top-flight player the Red Dragons have their eyes on, with one youngster from Liverpool particularly catching their interest.

John Eustace predicts Wrexham target Owen Beck to have a ‘huge future’

Liverpool.com broke the news that Wrexham are interested in taking left-back Owen Beck on loan for the 2025/26 campaign.

The 22-year-old spent last season at Blackburn Rovers, scoring once in 24 appearances, with former manager John Eustace left impressed by the youngster’s performances.

Speaking about Beck in October 2024, Eustace tipped the Englishman for greatness: “Owen was exceptional, that is why he’s here.

“He’s a very young, talented player. He’s got other good young players around but also experience around him too. They want to help him and they’re always talking to him.

“He’s had a brilliant game against a couple of really tricky wingers today for Swansea. He dealt with them very well.

“He will have a huge future in the game, I am sure. We have really good competition at the club and Owen will learn a lot.”

Beck would have to compete with James McClean at Wrexham

Beck possesses incredible athleticism and an unwavering appetite to defend while providing a threat at the top end of the pitch.

As Parkinson utilises wing-backs at Wrexham, the attacking side of his game is hugely important, and Beck will need to compete against James McClean for a place in the side.

McClean may be 36-years-old but his fitness levels are some of the best in the Wrexham squad, and he will be a difficult proposition to dislodge.

6 assists

That being said, Liverpool will only send Beck to the Racecourse Ground if he’s guaranteed to start most weeks, which is something Parkinson will have to weigh up before making a decision.
