A former member of the Middlesbrough coaching staff has broken his silence on his decision to leave the club last week.
It was revealed last week that goalkeeping coach Alan Fettis had opted to leave his position after three years at the Riverside Stadium.
His departure comes despite Middlesbrough’s brilliant start to the season, in which Rob Edwards has guided the Teessiders to the top of the Championship table.
Following Boro’s draw against Preston North End at the weekend, Fettis has now sent a message to the supporters.

Alan Fettis pens goodbye message to Middlesbrough fans
As it stands, there is no explanation as to why the goalkeeping coach departed, but Fettis still said goodbye to the fans.
Writing on his LinkedIn page, the coach said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Middlesbrough Football Club for three wonderful years. It has been a privilege to work as goalkeeping coach alongside such dedicated staff, talented players, and passionate supporters.
“I would also like to thank CEO Neil Bausor, Sporting Director Kieran Scott, and Club Secretary Karen Nelson for their invaluable support and guidance throughout my time at the club.
“A special mention must go to the goalkeepers I’ve had the pleasure of working with during my time here — Zach Steffen, Luke Daniels, Liam Roberts, Jamie Jones, Zach Hemming, Tom Glover, Jon McLoughlin, Shea Connor, Mark Travers, Seny Dieng, and Sol Brynn. Each of you has made the role incredibly rewarding, and I’m grateful for your hard work and commitment every day. Learning works both ways, and I certainly have learned a lot from all of you.
“I’ve truly enjoyed my time here, both on and off the pitch, and I am grateful for the trust, support, and memories we’ve shared together. Middlesbrough will always hold a special place in my heart, and I wish the club every success in the future.”
Who will replace Alan Fettis as Middlesbrough goalkeeping coach?
Boro will now look to find a replacement for Fettis, with no confirmation from the club about his successor.
Academy head of coaching Chris Pennock has stepped up to fill the void in the interim, and a replacement is expected to join soon.
Whoever comes in will be tasked with helping to continue the strong start to the season as Edwards targets a Premier League return.
