Michael Carrick Middlesbrough future latest

Meanwhile, we can now share the latest news regarding the former Manchester United man and his future at the Riverside Stadium.

EFL Analysis understands that Middlesbrough are doing an internal review, which includes Carrick’s future being discussed.

However, no decision has been made over the 43-year-old yet.

We spoke to transfer expert Graeme Bailey about Carrick, who told us: “Steve Gibson likes Michael Carrick – if he didn’t, he would already be gone.

“During the next week or so, Gibson is sitting down with the club’s hierarchy, and they are going to assess the season, which was a huge disappointment.

“To finish 10th with this squad is not good – Boro are on a downward trajectory, and Gibson is not happy with that.

“Carrick did get a new deal last year, but the home form, particularly, was disappointing.”

Michael Carrick role in Middlesbrough January transfer recruitment

Middlesbrough let Matt Clarke go in the latest winter window without signing another centre-back.

In terms of incomings, Ryan Giles, Kelechi Iheanacho, Mark Travers, Morgan Whittaker, and Samuel Iling-Junior all arrived, while George Edmundson’s loan was made permanent.

On the role Carrick played in the January transfer window, Bailey told us: “Carrick himself played a major role in the January recruitment, being the main voice behind the signings of Ryan Giles and Kelechi Iheanacho, who was a huge gamble and an even bigger disappointment.

“Gibson has a huge decision to make, and I am told he is yet to decide what to do with his manager.”
