Freshly promoted Leeds United are wasting no time in bolstering their squad.
Daniel Farke will be looking to assemble a squad that’s ready to step up to the challenge, despite ongoing speculation around the Leeds manager’s future.

And that includes bringing in players with experience, and there’s one midfielder the club already have an eye on.
The Elland Road chiefs have been watching him for some time, with reports ahead of last summer’s transfer window linking him with a potential move to Leeds.
Leeds United in the race for Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff
The Newcastle United player has been a frequent starter at St James’ Park in recent years but a raft of high-quality signings has seen him slide down the hierarchy, with 16 of his 24 Premier League appearances coming from the bench.

As a result, the midfielder could look to leave his childhood club this summer and Leeds’ promotion has seen links resurface, with The Sun now reporting they will rival Everton for the Newcastle man’s signature.
The news suggests Toffees boss David Moyes has made Longstaff a ‘top target’ this summer as he plans to rebuild the existing squad.
But there will be ‘fierce competition’ from Leeds, who look set for a busy summer recruiting for their top-flight return.

Farke is reportedly eager to inject Premier League experience into his freshly promoted Leeds United squad, a quality Sean Longstaff undoubtedly possesses with his impressive tally of 170 top-flight appearances and Champions League experience.
A factor that will surely have Leeds fans optimistic about their upcoming Premier League return following Farke’s recent remarks.
Newcastle are expected to want around £10million for Longstaff, who will enter the final 12 months of his Magpies deal this summer.
Sean Longstaff talks Newcastle future as Leeds speculation mounts
Longstaff has spoken openly on his future at Newcastle this season: “Yeah if it’s here [Newcastle] it’s great. If it’s not, it’s not,” Longstaff said on his future in November.
“I want to be valued as a player, I want to be appreciated as a player and whether it’s here, great. If it’s not here and it’s somewhere else, it’ll be somewhere else.

“In a way I live day to day, game to game and I just try and take in every game. I get to go to work every day and spend it with my best friends, I don’t know what’s coming ahead.
“I don’t know what’s coming down the line, I just try to embrace every day and enjoy every minute because ultimately it won’t last forever.”
He is a product of Newcastle’s academy and made his competitive first-team debut against Nottingham Forest in the second round of the EFL Cup in August 2018, before making his Premier League debut as a second-half substitute against Liverpool the following December.

On 26 February 2019, he scored his first Premier League goal for Newcastle in a 2–0 win over Burnley.
Longstaff played a part in Newcastle United’s historic 2025 EFL Cup win, appearing on the bench as they secured their first major domestic trophy in 70 years.
