Middlesbrough fans send summer transfer demand to Steve Gibson, they want ‘class’ player signed

The 2024/25 season isn’t over yet but Middlesbrough fans are already making plans for the summer transfer window.

It’s been a rocky campaign for Michael Carrick and his Boro players as they look to secure a spot in the play-offs.

Middlesbrough have been unable to stay consistent this year, in part due to their constant injury issues that have recently seen the club’s backline heavily depleted.

In their most recent outing, Neto Borges and Jonny Howson started the tie, which was against Luton Town, as makeshift central defenders.

The Hatters ended the meeting with 19 shots but Middlesbrough were still, even without a recognised centre-back, able to keep a clean sheet. This was in no small part due to the heroics of goalkeeper Mark Travers.

Middlesbrough fans want Mark Travers signed permanently

Amid a mix of injury issues and the poor form of Seny Dieng, the Teessiders signed Travers on loan from AFC Bournemouth in January.

The goalkeeper has been immense since his arrival and after another fantastic showing over the weekend, Boro fans have taken to social media to praise the shot-stopper and demand he is signed permanently.

One fan wrote on Instagram: “Get him signed Mark Travers”, while another commented: “He’s class.”

A third Boro supporter went as far as to claim: “With Dieng, we’d have lost 6-0.”

Further praising Travers’ display against Luton, another stated: “Brick wall,” while a fifth added: “Kept us alive.”

Meanwhile, taking to X/Twitter, a sixth demanded: “Get him signed permanently.”

While a seventh also expressed hope of a permanent transfer: “I do hope we sign this lad.”

What has been said about Middlesbrough signing Mark Travers permanently

Travers is under contract with Bournemouth until 2027 but his future does appear to lie away from the Cherries.

Teesside Live mentioned how the South Coast outfit’s potential move for Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher would likely open the door for Travers to seal a summer exit.

However, whether he ends up joining Middlesbrough on a permanent basis remains to be seen.

They note how Sol Brynn will likely be looking for more first-team minutes once he returns from injury, while Zach Hemming is also an option.

Crucially, it’s suggested the North East outfit might struggle to sell Dieng in the summer due to his long-term injury.
