Millwall veteran Shaun Hutchinson has departed the Lions after the conclusion of the 2024/25 Championship campaign.
Under the guidance of manager Alex Neil, Millwall finished the second tier season in eighth place, just two points shy of a play-off position.
Millwall’s form following the March international break propelled their play-off push, after Neil’s side won five and lost two games from their final seven, but couldn’t beat Bristol City to sixth.
Amid the summer transfer window, the headlines at Millwall have been dominated by potential departures, with Wolves interested in Mihailo Ivanovic after his 12-goal campaign, and the newly-promoted trio seriously interested in signing Japhet Tanganga.
One high-profile departure this summer has been club captain Shaun Hutchinson, who has revealed his thoughts on Millwall boss Neil after he concluded his nine-year stint at the Lions.

Shaun Hutchinson reveals thoughts on Millwall boss Alex Neil
34-year-old defender Hutchinson departed The Den this summer upon the expiry of his contract, having made 268 appearances in his nine years at Millwall, scoring 14 times and assisting seven goals.
Hutchinson arrived from Fulham in 2016, and in his debut Lions campaign, scored against Bristol Rovers on the final day of the 2016/17 season to send his side to the third tier play-offs, which they eventually saw success in and returned to the second tier.
Following his emotional departure, the former Motherwell star lifted the lid on who his favourite Millwall manager has been across his time at the club, and lifted the lid on what he thinks of Neil.
Via journalist Richard Cawley on X, Hutchinson said: “It’s pretty unfair to pick one. The timing of them all fitted with what the club needed. Each have helped me when they needed to.
“Neil Harris was massive for me because he was the one who brought me to the club and gave me the opportunity. I had a really close working relationship with him and I’m forever thankful to him.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the six months with Alex Neil. He is a brilliant coach and the club are in brilliant hands right now with him.
“It is looking really promising for them and I’ve been blown away a little bit by the work he has done off the pitch.”
As well as Aaron Connolly, Duncan Watmore, and Murray Wallace, Hutchinson will not feature for Millwall next season, but leaves as a club legend for his years of service to the Lions.

Shaun Hutchinson makes Millwall 25/26 Championship prediction
Veteran Hutchinson will leave a void in the Lions dressing room after his emotional departure, but he believes the future is bright at Millwall with Neil at the helm.
On the club’s future, Hutchinson added: “I’m leaving at a good time. I feel it is the right time for me and the club feels it is right. I’m leaving it in a really solid and healthy place.
“I’m looking forward to watching them next year and seeing how they do, I think next season and the season after – without getting carried away – looks really bright.”
For Millwall, Hutchinson ended on 268 appearances, with 14 goals and seven assists in all competitions.
His tenacity, quality, and leadership qualities will see Hutchinson forever remembered by the Lions faithful as one of the club’s greatest servants in recent history.
