Tim Krul has called time on his long and successful career, leaving Norwich City fans gutted but grateful for everything he did for the club.
The Dutch goalkeeper arrived in England many years ago as a 17-year-old, joining Newcastle United. He made quite the name for himself in the Premier League from then on, both with the Magpies and with Norwich City.
Tim Krul will go down as a modern day legend for both those clubs. In many ways, he’s a player that really captures that quintessential Barclaysman vibe.
Given he was key to Norwich’s last attempt at top flight football, and stuck by them in the Championship, Krul is understandably beloved by Canaries fans. Now he’s retired, they’ve shown that love in abundance.

Norwich City fans pay tribute to Tim Krul
Upon announcing his retirement at the age of 37, Norwich City fans flooded social media with praise and positive comments for their former number one.
One fan wrote: “I’m not crying you are – amazing career Tim. Up there with the greatest Norwich number 1s in my lifetime – and we’ve had some great ones.”

Another said: “My favourite Norwich City ‘keeper of all time – which is quite the compliment given the great list we’ve had. Congratulations on a brilliant career, Tim!”
A third even suggested the club should bring Krul back, adding: “Absolute legend for Norwich. Happy retirement Tim and all the best for whatever lies ahead! Ahem… Norwich City, get him on the coaching team.”
Meanwhile, others hailed Krul’s role in their Championship title wins. “An integral part of two title wins. We’ve had a lot of great goalkeepers at this club over the years but you’re right up there with the best,” one replied.
It seems Norwich fans will have to fight for Krul if he is to take up a coaching role, though. Newcastle United fans seem to want him back there, too.
One Newcastle fan wrote: “Hope you get the coaching badges, back to the Toon maybe in a new role?”
Plenty reflected on his top performance for the Magpies, writing: “Phenomenal goalie. That performance away at Spurs was something else.”

Tim Krul reflects on incredible career
Interestingly, Krul didn’t mention Norwich in his retirement post. He did mention Newcastle though, but that’s fair given he made his breakthrough there.
He wrote: “As I hang up my gloves after an incredible 20 years as a professional football player, I want to take a moment to reflect on my journey. From joining Newcastle as a 17-year-old boy, to representing Holland on the international stage. I have truly lived the dream I had as a young boy.
“Every match, every training session, and every rollercoaster moment has shaped me into who I am today. Thank you to the clubs, coaches, teammates, my beautiful family, and most importantly the fans, for your support through my career.
“I am excited to move on to my next chapter. I will always cherish the memories made on the pitch. Here’s to new adventures off the pitch!”
