Norwich City praised for ‘shrewd’ Mathias Kvistgaarden signing, he brings ‘potential’ in one key area

Norwich City’s new recruit Mathias Kvistgaarden has been given raving reviews by one EFL expert.

At this early stage of the summer transfer window, Norwich City have prepared brilliantly for the 2025/26 Championship season.

There has been a recruitment drive at Carrow Road as the Canaries look to prepare for life without some key players.

Notably, Borja Sainz looks likely to move on from Norwich City this summer, whilst a departure for Josh Sargent wouldn’t come as a surprise after the heights he hit last season.

To cater for the goals they are likely to miss out on with players moving on, Norwich have fought fire with fire, turning towards the £7m signing of Mathias Kvistgaarden from Brondby.

There is plenty of optimism among Canaries fans following the arrival of Kvistgaarden, something that now looks very well placed.

Norwich City fans told what to expect from Mathias Kvistgaarden

Mathias Kvistgaarden’s arrival at the club has been very well received, and for good reason after he bagged 23 goals in all competitions in the 2024/25 season.

The Norwich forward’s time at the Danish club has been highly successful, and whilst there is no surprise to the fact that he is a phenomenal finisher who has brilliant goalscoring instincts at the age of 23, but he is also incredibly dangerous with his head.

This has been identified by EFL expert Justin Peach, speaking on the second tier podcast, who spoke about the ‘shrewd’ deal to sign the forward.

“I think it’s a shrewd signing, 23 goals and seven assists for Brondby, it’s a good standard of league.

“We’ve seen a lot of Championship clubs dip into Scandinavia recently. Reading about him, he’s a good all-around attacker. He’s not massively tall but wins a decent amount of headers. It gives a lot of variation to that attack.

“There’s clearly a lot of goals potential in this forward line for Norwich now.”

How Mathias Kvistgaarden compares to Josh Sargent

It is unknown whether Sargent will stick around for the 2025/26 Championship season, although it would make sense if Mathias Kvistgaarden has been brought in as the American’s successor.

Looking at the stats, it is understandable why the Norwich City board have identified Kvistgaarden as a worthwhile replacement for their talisman, based on goal tallies alone.

Taking into account the Danish Superliga season for Kvistgaarden and the Championship campaign for Sargent, the Dane bagged two more goals despite playing nearly 500 less minutes.

Where Kvistgaarden stands head-and-shoulders above Sargent, however, is his heading ability. In both attacking and defensive situations, the new Norwich forward is able to assert himself brilliantly and will give the Canaries an extra threat from set-pieces.
