QPR’s good run of form continued with an impressive point against Bristol City this weekend, and one player stood out from the crowd.
After a dismal start to the season, QPR looked like they’d be wrapped up in the Championship relegation battle this year. But, the R’s have improved as the season went on, and now are all-but safe.
Indeed, Marti Cifuentes has really got his team playing lately, and QPR are unbeaten in April so far after yesterday’s 1-1 draw against promotion hopefuls Bristol City.
The game treated fans on both sides to lovely, slick goals, and it also had QRP fans admitting they were too quick to judge one player in particular.

Nico Madsen silences his critics with big performance
Of all the major talking points in the Championship today, QPR’s draw is unlikely to make many waves among the neutrals.
But, the performance of Nico Madsen, who provided the assist for Karamoke Dembele’s goal, has drawn praise from all corners of the QPR fanbase, who changed their tune after criticising the Danish midfielder for months.
Reacting to Madsen’s post-match interview, one QPR fan replied, “He’s arrived,” while another added, “Best game in a QPR shirt, great effort today.”
Madsen has been questioned heavily this season, but one supporter took it all back, writing: “Fair play to Madsen, I’m happy to say I was proven wrong.”
Others were looking ahead to the future, and suggested Madsen could now become one of the best players in the Championship for QPR next season.
“He will come good next season, definitely a player there,” one said. Another added: “Big summer ahead and he might still crack it. We are all right behind you Nico.”

A third wrote: “He’s just started performing so allow that to continue. Some players progress differently, if we see that Madsen from now on he will be a key player.”
However, there is still room for improvement, obviously. “No doubting Nico has bags of natural talent and I’m delighted he has given us a glimpse of what he could be. Needs to work much harder off the ball and not start hiding at crucial points in the game,” a QPR fan replied.

QPR will be a team to watch next season
QPR are picking up their performances and gaining real momentum right now, it’s just a shame that all it will lead to at this point is midtable security. Still, given where they were earlier this season, that’s a good finish for this team.
Under Cifuentes, QPR look to be developing a slick style of play and a more resilient edge, too, which will serve them well next year.

Unfortunately, QPR will lose Jimmy Dunne in the summer it seems, and his absence will be a real blow. Recruitment will be needed if the R’s are to move forward and build on this potential, and replacing him will be of paramount importance.
But, QPR fans can look forward to the return of Charlie Kelman, who is tearing up League One right now. The prolific forward will add goals to a side that has struggled in that department this season, and he could end up being the difference-maker that takes QPR into the top half next season.
