We would be the first to push the agenda that the Championship has some incredible talent turning out week in, week out, but even we were surprised to see a QPR player branded a wonderkid.
QPR have had a fairly inconsistent and unremarkable season, though credit must be given for the way they moved away from the relegation zone after a tough start to the campaign.
Marti Cifuentes has got his team grinding out results here and there, including a shock draw against Leeds United as one of the big results in the Championship over the weekend.
While most of the QPR squad find their strengths in resilience, hard-work, and a battling spirit, there is one member of the squad who could well be one of the best players in the Championship.

Yang Min-hyeok makes the top 50 in list of football’s wonderkids
At least, that’s according to GOAL, who have released their yearly list of the 50 best wonderkids in world football, and among them, is QPR’s Yang Min-hyeok.
The South Korean teenager comes in at number 43 on the NXGN 2025 list, beating the likes of Manchester United’s Chidi Obi, Barcelona’s Diego Kochen, and PSG’s Senny Mayulu in the process.
On the player, GOAL wrote: “Tottenham’s association with South Korea is no secret given the legendary status of Son Heung-min in North London, and there is now hope that one of his compatriots will follow in Son’s footsteps after Spurs secured the signing of versatile attacker Yang Min-hyeok back in July.
“The Premier League side allowed Yang to complete the 2024 season with Gangwon FC, for whom he scored 12 goals and provided six assists in his solitary campaign at senior level, before he arrived in England in December. The 18-year-old has since been loaned out to Championship side QPR, where he is gaining experience of English football.”
Yang has registered one assist in eight appearances for the Championship outfit so far during his loan spell from Tottenham, and has shown real glimpses of his star quality with neat tricks, clever wing play, and it’s clear he offers a real goal threat, too.
If you’re wondering, rather unsurprisingly, it was Barcelona starlet Lamine Yamal who topped the list. Meanwhile, fellow EFL ace, Chris Rigg, was also on the list, with the Sunderland teenager coming in at number 29.

Can QPR keep Yang Min-hyeok next season?
It was somewhat surprising that Tottenham Hotspur allowed Yang to leave on loan in January in the first place. The Lilywhites had brought the youngster over to England a little earlier than anticipated, and Ange Postecoglou even included him in a handful of matchday squads.
But, the decision was made to let Yang gain some vital Football League experience at QPR, and he’s clearly learning from his time with Cifuente’s side.
It remains to be seen what will happen with Yang next season. Indeed, a lot will probably depend on whether Postecoglou is still in charge or if Daniel Levy has chopped and changed managers again at Spurs.
A change there could open a door for Yang, but the more likely situation is that the teenager heads out on loan to a Premier League club to continue his development. QPR were lucky to get him this season, and won’t be holding their breath that they can retain one of the world’s most exciting young players.
