Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth supporters came together in the ongoing fight against Dejphon Chansiri, which saw one Pompey fan make an incredible gesture.

Despite the off-field troubles, Sheffield Wednesday have notched their first Championship win of the 2025/26 season, overcoming Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

It was a formidable performance from the Owls, which saw Henrik Pedersen’s Sheffield Wednesday side manage a deserved victory, with Barry Bannan and George Brown getting the goals.

Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been starved of positivity in recent months, as they continue the fight against Dejphon Chansiri.

One upside of the current events in S6 has been the unity between fanbases, and that was no different between the Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth supporters, as one person of Pompey persuasion made a brilliant gesture before the game.

Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth fans come together after brilliant gesture

Before the game, the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust sold black and gold scarves to fans in order to raise money in their quest against Dejphon Chansiri.

This led to a Portsmouth fan making a brilliant gesture, which was recognised by Sheffield Wednesday supporters on social media.

One Sheffield Wednesday fan, via X, said: “Massive shout out to Pompey fans already, was about to pay for my black and gold scarf and one of their fans bought it for me. Legends.”

This was responded to by the Portsmouth supporter in question, who said: “Think it was me that paid for yours! Wednesday’s a special club to me! My grandad was born in Sheffield & supported Wednesday.

“We lost him on the day of the Hillsborough game last year at the minute of Paterson’s goal. We’ve had our bad share of owners, I’m sure you’ll beat yours.”

This good deed was heightened by fellow Portsmouth fans, who showed their support for Sheffield Wednesday, as one said: “Proper fans, wish them all the best for the rest of the season.”

Another supporter said: “Hope you lot get out of this mess soon. Good luck for this season apart from our reverse fixture.”

Like Portsmouth fans, Wrexham supporters also showed support for Sheffield Wednesday earlier this season, as well as a number of other Championship clubs.

Henrik Pedersen has given Owls fans new hope

It has been doom and gloom for Sheffield Wednesday recently, with Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership leading to the mass departure of several first-team stars.

Sheffield Wednesday have been left with a makeshift side made up of many young players who previously had no Championship experience.

A win for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship felt like a near-impossible task as a result of Chansiri’s mismanagement, but they proved many wrong to notch a win, and even a clean sheet away at Portsmouth.

It was a phenomenal showing from Sheffield Wednesday, considering the circumstances they find themselves in, and Pedersen deserves utmost praise for getting a tune out of his makeshift side.
