Sheffield Wednesday fans sent warning by Sky Sports pundit after recent blows, ‘a massive mess’

The Championship season kicks off in less than two weeks, and there is no sign of things improving at Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday players were unhappy with Danny Rohl after their manager decided not to return at the start of pre-season.

The German is expected to leave the Owls this summer, but financial implications are preventing Rohl’s exit.

Money has been the main source of Wednesday’s woes this year, and has seen them fail to pay wages and hit with several embargoes.

Now, one Sky Sports pundit has told supporters of the Yorkshire club why they should be worried.

Sheffield Wednesday fans sent warning

Amid financial problems, Sheffield Wednesday have been selling players to try and recoup some cash.

But after they could not pay wages on time, Josh Windass and Michael Smith terminated their contracts.

Windass has moved to Wrexham, and Smith has linked up with Preston North End.

Now, Don Goodman has been discussing all the problems at Sheffield Wednesday with a clear warning to fans.

He told Football League World: “If I were a Sheffield Wednesday fan, I’d be really worried at this point.

“Losing players like Josh Windass and Michael Smith on a free transfer then being placed under a transfer embargo for three transfer windows isn’t what they needed.

“They’ve got an owner that seems to be lost, struggling financially, not paying wages, not paying bills, it’s just a massive mess.

“I do think it’s a really attractive club for somebody to buy, but whether the valuation of Wednesday by the current owner is realistic enough may be the reason that things are not moving forward regarding a takeover, so it is a real concern.”

Sheffield Wednesday fans find one positive in crisis

Sheffield Wednesday can’t sign players for a transfer fee and have a wage cap in place.

This, combined with a number of senior stars leaving, has seen Rohl’s squad heavily reduced.

It means a Championship relegation battle surely looks to be on the cards in 2025/26.

But Sheffield Wednesday fans are ‘excited’ by the young talent at the club getting a chance in the first team.
