The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust has issued an urgent demand for clarity over one thing after it was confirmed that the North Stand will be open.

This summer has seen Sheffield Wednesday fans left in the dark regarding the future of Hillsborough Stadium, with safety concerns regarding the North Stand.

Sheffield City Council deemed the North Stand unsafe, leaving Sheffield Wednesday fans uncertain as to whether the club would be able to rectify the issue in time for the 2025/26 season kicking off.

It has now been confirmed that Sheffield Wednesday’s North Stand, which ironically brands Dejphon Chansiri’s across its seats, has passed the tests for it to be used in the first home game against Stoke City.

Owls fans are glad that the issues have been rectified, but the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust is still keen to seek extra clarity on the issues that have plagued the club this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust ask for clarity on North Stand concerns

Sheffield Wednesday’s home clash with Stoke City will see protest action ramped up by Owls supporters, who are set to walk through Hillsborough Park to protest against Dejphon Chansiri for the litany of concerns that have concerned the club in recent months.

Whilst the uncertainty of the North Stand has since been cleared up, with Sheffield Wednesday fans now able to sit in their designated seats for the game against the Potters, the Supporters’ Trust is demanding answers on the specific concerns that were raised about Hillsborough Stadium.

Via a statement published on X, the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust wrote: “Following today’s announcement that the North Stand will reopen, we are writing directly to Sheffield City Council seeking urgent transparency on this decision.

“The stand was closed by the Council due to documented safety concerns. With supporters expected to enter the stand on Saturday, we need clear answers on what has changed and what safety assessments led to this reversal.

“Given Hillsborough’s history and ongoing scrutiny around stadium safety, transparency is essential and urgent. As our elected local authority, Sheffield CC has a duty to provide clear answers before supporters are asked to use the stand.

“We will share their response with supporters once we receive it. Public safety requires public accountability.”

Owls fans will voice their concerns vs Stoke City

This weekend will see Hillsborough Stadium provide the location for what could be a raucous response from Sheffield Wednesday supporters on the current issues at the club.

Sheffield Wednesday supporters have hit breaking point after the club was left in such a difficult position, with Dejphon Chansiri being blamed for such events.

The protest staged at Leicester City on the opening day of the 2025/26 Championship season was well received by a large majority, and many will likely be in favour of increased scrutiny of the ownership of Sheffield Wednesday.

The North Stand was just one of many shortcomings of the club this summer. Delayed wages, uncertainty over players’ future, the exile of first-teamers – it has all boiled into an unsavoury mood around S6.
