Sky Sports pundit reveals ‘problems’ as he shares Coventry City vs Middlesbrough score prediction

Coventry City and Middlesbrough clash at the CBS Arena on the final day of the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

Both teams go into the fixture knowing they will need a victory to have any chance of securing a play-off place.

Coventry City are sixth already and a draw against Boro could be enough to keep them in the top six, depending on other results.

As for Middlesbrough, their draw with Norwich City last time out means they have dropped down to ninth and are no longer in charge of their own fate.

They must beat Frank Lampard’s side, then hope Millwall and Blackburn Rovers drop points in their clashes.

Coventry vs Middlesbrough score prediction

Opta’s supercomputer thinks Coventry are favourites to beat Middlesbrough, giving them just under 50 percent chance of doing so.

That would likely see them facing off with Sheffield United in the semi-finals of the play-offs.

Meanwhile, former player turned pundit, Sam Parkin, has now made his prediction for the fixture.

Speaking on the Championship Check-In podcast this week, Parkin highlighted the ‘problems’ both teams have faced in recent weeks before backing a 2-1 Coventry win.

He said: “Oh my goodness me. I think both teams go in with problems. Coventry obviously, the last couple of results, what Plymouth and Luton, is it back-to-back? They’ve won a couple, haven’t they. They beat Portsmouth last minute, and they beat West Brom, which was far and away their best performance.

“But the displays have actually been really indifferent recently. Are they good enough to win last day with a bit of pressure? I’m going to say yes, and that’s just because you know Middlesbrough are struggling for rhythm. I think various things have gone wrong for them second half of the season. I want to say 2-1 for all of them. 2-1 Coventry.”

Is Middlesbrough season a failure without play-offs

Michael Carrick angered Middlesbrough fans last month with his comments regarding the play-offs.

He suggested the season was not a failure if Boro do not make the top six, though many will likely disagree.

After a rebuilding year in 2023/24, this campaign was supposed to be the one Carrick and Co. made a proper promotion charge.

A top-two finish always seemed somewhat unrealistic, but if the Teessiders don’t even make the play-offs this term and finish lower than last season (seventh) it must surely do down as a pretty disastrous campaign.
