Sky Sports reporter reveals the number of points he expects Leicester City will have deducted from them this season

Leicester City have been bracing themselves for a potential points deduction this season.

The Foxes were charged by the Premier League with an alleged breach of profit and sustainability rules in relation to the 2023/24 season, despite playing in the Championship during that period.

An independent commission referred the club based on three charges for the season – even though they won an appeal over charges relating to the 2022/23 season.

A points deduction has been looming for some time at the King Power Stadium and although Marti Cifuentes has become the new Leicester boss, he is going to have to do it the hard way.

Leicester City set to brace themselves for points deduction

Fears of a points deduction haven’t gone away and after confirming the arrival of Cifuentes, Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett admitted that he expects Leicester to be handed a nine-point deduction this season.

This certainly wouldn’t be ideal but with Leicester having a favourable start to the season, they can easily get a good run together that would see any punishment like that have little effect on them.

Even with the likely setback, Leicester are still one of the favourites for promotion and will fancy their chances of being up there.

When is Marti Cifuentes’ first game in charge as Leicester City manager?

Cifuentes has arrived at the King Power Stadium midway through pre-season and will travel with the squad to Austria for their pre-season camp.

That means his first game in charge will be on Saturday 19 July, when the Foxes take on Hungarian side Zalaegerszegi TE, who play in the top flight of their national league.

As for his first competitive game in charge, Leicester will play host to Sheffield Wednesday who will have Danny Rohl in the dugout after he returned to the Owls.
