‘Stumbling block’ preventing Dejphon Chansiri from selling Sheffield Wednesday has now been dismissed

Dejphon Chansiri has Sheffield Wednesday in a stranglehold and a potential sale doesn’t appear close, though one potential roadblock has now been dismissed.

The Championship season kicks off this weekend, and the Owls remain firmly in crisis.

Sheffield Wednesday have a threadbare squad, brought about by financial mismanagement, leading to a plethora of key stars being sold or allowed to leave for nothing.

Barry Bannan has said there will be no strike for the upcoming meeting with Leicester City.

But it remains clear that unless Dejphon Chansiri departs, not a lot will change anytime soon.

‘Stumbling block’ in Sheffield Wednesday sale dismissed

The EFL is doing little to help Sheffield Wednesday overcome their current owner and rebuild the club.

Amid the ongoing issues, six Sheffield MPs and Lord David Blunkett have sent a letter to the EFL to try and get some much-needed answers to their Chansiri problem.

On that front, not much is being done, leading fans to speculate why there is a hold-up in a potential sale.

One supporter has suggested a potential issue with the training ground, saying on X: “So the stumbling block that is preventing the sale is Chansiri wanting to retain ownership of the training ground. Doesn’t take genius to figure out he’ll evict the club, sell the land or develop it.”

However, this concern has been quickly dismissed by journalist Joe Crann, who responded: “The council own the land that the training ground is on, as far as I know… #SWFC lease it from them. So I don’t see how that could be a stumbling block.”

John Textor takeover of Sheffield Wednesday latest

In terms of who could come in to replace Chansiri, John Textor has been linked with the Yorkshire outfit for some time.

It’s our understanding that Textor has a ‘genuine interest’ in purchasing Sheffield Wednesday.

But, as most fans will expect, Chansiri is thought to be proving difficult to negotiate with.

Textor’s net worth is $3.4 billion. He has experience in football and is the majority owner of Ligue 1 side Lyon.
