Swansea City caught people’s attention when they were surprisingly able to capture the addition of Adam Idah.

Idah signed from Celtic in a deal worth £7m which will see the forward return to the Championship and lead the line for Alan Sheehan’s team.

He is yet to play for his new club after joining just before the international break but, if he plays like he did for the Republic of Ireland against Hungary, he will become a fan favourite very quickly.

Adam Idah scores late equaliser as Ireland come from 2-0 down vs Hungary

The new Swansea forward had to settle for a place on the bench in the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Hungary but showed what he could do when he scored the late equaliser after being substituted on.

It was a huge goal that could be the difference between making the 2026 World Cup or not and the Irish media waxed lyrical about his late impact.

The Irish Times wrote: “Adam Idah brought the house down with his equaliser.”

RTE said: “The equalising hero. The Swansea striker hasn’t always looked at ease in front of goal, but took his opportunity with aplomb to rescue the draw and keep Irish hopes alive in the group.”

Meanwhile, The 42 commented: “Heimir Hallgrimsson made a couple of bold attacking changes as Ireland chased an equaliser, and it ultimately paid off as substitute Adam Idah headed home the all-important goal.”

The Irish Sun scored his 15-minute cameo as a 7/10 and SportsJOE.ie also handed him a 7/10.

Adam Idah keen to show Swansea what he is made of

Although his time at boyhood club Celtic ended in disappointment, Idah is keen to put that aside and move on.

Starting games for club and country is a goal of his this season and he has vowed to take his chance.

Speaking after the draw, he said: “I want to play as many games as I can.

“If I can’t, that’s what I’ve got to do. I’ve got to come on and make a difference and prove to the manager why I should be playing the games. If he doesn’t start me, then I’ve got to keep coming on and trying to do that.

“It’s a team game. We want to win as many games as possible. We want to go to the World Cup. However I can help, I’m happy to do so.”
