Plymouth Argyle have lost all four of their opening League One games in 2025/26, and frustrations are growing at Home Park.
The Pilgrims are 23rd in the table at this moment in time, ahead of Peterborough United on goals scored, with Josh Koroma’s 63rd minute strike for Leyton Orient on Tuesday evening sinking the Devonshire outfit to a fifth straight league defeat – a run that started last season.
As a club, Argyle are financially stable. However, they have not been as adventurous as they have needed to be in the summer transfer window, and they are lacking quality in multiple areas with deadline day closing in.
Supporters have the right to be frustrated, especially on the road, and Tom Cleverley has backed the Plymouth fans, despite boos echoing around Home Park following the defeat to Leyton Orient.

Tom Cleverley reacts to Plymouth Argyle fans boos
It’s been a very difficult start to the campaign for the Pilgrims. They were beaten 3-2 by Lincoln City on Saturday, going 3-0 down to the Imps before staging a failed comeback.

There was a lot of pressure on the players to get a result on Tuesday, and despite a bright start, they once again crumbled in defence and Plymouth supporters booed their team off the pitch.
Nevertheless, Cleverley has no qualms with fans doing this. He said (via: Plymouth Live): “They pay their money, they can voice their frustrations. I think they have got the right balance of being demanding as well as not turning on their team, and supporting them.
“I have been there as a young player where it really can turn and it’s hostile, and it’s not easy to perform under those circumstances. I would say thanks for the support, keep being demanding as well as backing the team the best you can.”

Tom Cleverley has every right to be frustrated at Argyle
After EFL fans were shocked at Watford’s decision to sack Cleverley in May, the challenge of Plymouth looked to be a good one, with the side seeking for an instant return to the Championship.
However, key players have been sold throughout the summer and not replaced, leaving the team extremely light in various positions – especially in the final third.

Nobody expected Plymouth to be down at the very bottom of League One this season, and it seems at this point as though Cleverley was sold a dream with the team lacking quality.
Nevertheless, there is plenty of time for the situation to be turned around. Yet, signings are needed, and quickly, if the Pilgrims are to push themselves back up the table.
