Stockport County have made a perfect start to their 2025/26 campaign, winning their two opening games in League One, followed by a 3-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra.
The club are hopeful that they can continue their journey through the divisions, with Stockport among the favourites for promotion to the Championship this season.
Their Carabao Cup victory over Crewe Alexandra was a comfortable victory, as they dominated proceedings, only conceding a goal late on when the result was secure.
However, while everything looks rosy at present for the Greater Manchester club, there will be a decision made this week that will have huge implications on the future of Stockport County by the Stockport Council.
Vote on the expansion of Edgeley Park
The Manchester Evening News has reported that the Stockport Council are set to hold a vote on Thursday evening on whether the club can go ahead with their plans to expand Edgeley Park.
It has not been smooth sailing for the club in getting their expansion approved, as a wildlife group had deliberately attempted to stop the plans.
A planning application for the near £50m investment could have been granted in July, but a ‘late and lengthy’ objection from wildlife campaigners forced a delay.
Stockport County, though, will be pleased to know that this was addressed by the council and that the objection to their plans by the Wildlife Group had been ignored.

This expansion would add 7,400 seats and bring the total number of supporters in the ground to more than 18,000, with a new east stand and south stand.
The growth of the stadium has been seen as ‘vital’ for the future of the club and achieving their ambitions of becoming a Championship-level side.

Stockport supports the view on the expansion
Fans of Stockport County are excited by the potential expansion and the fact that it looks likely the decision will be passed in the council.
It will continue the growth the club has experienced over the past few years, not just on the pitch but also off it, as attendances have risen year upon year.

John Bilsbury, from Stockport County Supporters’ Co-operative, pointed out that attendances at the historic ground are growing.
He said: “The club will have over 7,000 season ticket holders this season and expect league games to sell out on a regular basis.
“This limits the potential of the club and their capacity to be competitive, as the capacity of Edgeley Park is just under 11,000, and the average attendance in the Championship was over 22,000 last season.”
