Watford have already had a very busy May, with a new manager and a new signing already through the door at Vicarage Road.

Tom Cleverley’s controversial sacking not long after the regular Championship campaign came to an end sent shockwaves through the EFL, with Paulo Pezzolano taking charge in Hertfordshire for 2025/26.

The Hornets have already got down to business and announced their first summer signing, with Hector Kyprianou making the step up from League One to the second tier after his contract at Peterborough United expired.

The midfielder has been excellent for the Posh in recent seasons, helping them to back-to-back EFL Trophy victories, with his stunning strike against Birmingham City in this year’s competition a lasting memory for the 23-year-old as he prepares for life in yellow-and-black.

Watford fans are all on the same page following Hector Kyprianou’s announcement

With three months to go until the season starts, Kyprianou has plenty of time to settle into his new surroundings before getting a chance at Championship football for the first time in his career.

The former Leyton Orient man has signed a five-year deal at Vicarage Road, after making 140 appearances for Peterborough.

Following the disappointment of Cleverley’s sacking, the arrival of the Cyprus international has given a boost to supporters and the reaction to his announcement on social media has largely been positive as Watford look to improve on their 14th place finish.

One supporter wrote: “Never been more confident in a signing before, now it’s just a question of whether we keep Imran [Louza] to partner him.”

Another put: “Finally, a somewhat positive signing with decent upside. What 33yr+ veteran is coming in to counter balance?”

A fourth Watford fan replied to the post announcing the signing with a simple: “Good start.”

While a fifth wrote: “100 points.”

“Cracking signing this,” a seventh Watford fan stated.

While a Peterborough supporter was quick to offer their well wishes: “Take care of him.”

Hector Kyprianou has an extremely bright future, the Hornets will benefit from him greatly

Watford have been disappointing in recent seasons, and the new campaign will be a challenge for them as their new manager looks to settle in at a club that does not often give those in the dugout much time to build.

However, with Kyprianou in the middle of the park, they have a future to work around. He turns 24 at the end of May, and is committed in the long-term to the Hornets, and they must now fill the rest of the team with quality.

The ex-Posh midfielder was highly sought after, and now they have won that battle, they must continue to show ambition.

There are concerns among supporters about Pezzolano, and the board at Watford must ensure that he is backed to give him a fair chance of creating a legacy at Vicarage Road.
