Plymouth Argyle and Watford faced off in an early Championship kick-off on Saturday afternoon.

Watford went into the match looking to kick-start a late push to make it into the play-offs.

However, the Hornets had only won one of their previous four Championship matches, seeing them sat ninth and six points adrift of the top-six prior to kick-off.

As for Plymouth Arygle, they were in dire need of three points if they are to stand any chance of avoiding relegaiton this term.

The Greens began the day dead bottom of the second tier, and even a win would not have seen them climb out of the relegation zone.

Watford fans in agreement about Vakoun Bayo vs Plymouth Argyle

Watford’s best chances of the game came in the second 45 and fell to Vakoun Bayo.

The striker ran through on goal but a heavy touch closed the angle of his shot a lot, and it was a fairly easy save for the Plymouth keeper.

Then, with 74 minutes on the clock, he skipped past the goalkeeper before scuffing his chance to slot into an open goal.

Bayo struggled for much of the 90 minutes and received a fair bit of stick from fans on social media during the 0-0 draw.

One fan wrote: “I seriously think Bayo should get his eyes checked!”

A second added: “Bayo for Watford might be the worst player I’ve ever seen.”

Another claimed: “Bayo getting regular minutes for Ivory Coast really reinforces Carraghers point that African football is not the same standard as Europe/South America.”

A fourth stated: Don’t understand how Bayo is so bad at football.”

“Bayo is case and point that a striker’s ability completely kills how good you can be as a team. Just obviously nowhere near good enough for the Championship,” another Watford fan wrote.

While a fifth replied: “Lack of ability is crazy, but when he’s passable it’s when he’s aware of his limitations, stop trying to carry the ball —.”

And another Horents supporter echoed: “The issue is that if you are only going to have 2-3 half-chances, you don’t want Bayo on the end of them. He is utterly useless.”

Watford need Vakoun Bayo replacement

Bayo was signed by Watford’s sister club Udinese during the summer but was swiftly loaned to the Hornets.

He’s since become a key figure at Vicarage Road, featuring 35 times in the Championship this season.

The 28-year-old had 10 league games prior to Saturday, but he had not scored since a meeting with Cardiff City on January 14.

Regardless of his form in the remainder of the campaign, Bayo will return to Italy in the summer, and Watford will be in need of another striker.
