Middlesbrough are close to signing Danny Ings, but EFL Analysis has learned the striker was hoping for another move this summer.

Middlesbrough are expected to sell key players this summer, much to the disappointment of one journalist.

But there is some good news for Boro fans, with a step towards their first signing of the summer now taken.

We reported last month that Middlesbrough are keen on Alfie Gilchrist, and interest in the Chelsea youngster has once again emerged this week.

Meanwhile, it has now been shared that after leaving West Ham United as a free agent, Danny Ings is wanted by the Teessiders.

Danny Ings hoped for Premier League move before Middlesbrough

EFL Analysis has now learned via our transfer expert Graeme Bailey that Ings, who is in advanced talks with Boro, was hoping to secure a top-flight move this summer.

We can confirm that Middlesbrough are in advanced talks with Danny Ings as they look to add the England international to their attacking ranks.

The 32-year-old is a free agent after leaving West Ham United and has a number of options available to him.

He was hoping to remain in the Premier League, whilst there was also interest from Major League Soccer.

However, Boro are working hard on persuading him to move to the North East and are advancing with the talks.
