Jobe Bellingham is poised to depart Sunderland for Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund during the summer transfer window.
Black Cats midfielder Jobe Bellingham is poised to depart Sunderland for German giants Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.
Bellingham’s decision to depart came just days after Sunderland’s victory in the Championship play-off final, at the expense of Sheffield United.
Dortmund have beaten Premier League clubs to secure Bellingham’s services this summer, after a five-year contract agreement has been made in principle between all parties. However, the reason Bellingham is yet to depart has now become clear.

Jobe Bellingham transfer from Sunderland to Borussia Dortmund held up
EFL Analysis exclusively revealed in May that Dortmund were always confident of signing Bellingham, despite Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig.
After weeks of negotiations and headlines, it seems inevitable that the move will materialise, but the two clubs are currently at an impasse over the transfer fee for the combative midfielder.
As per The Mirror, Dortmund have reportedly been told by Sunderland to increase their bid by a total of £8.5 million to secure Bellingham’s services, as the clubs remain in “deadlock” over the fee.
Regarding his release clause, it is understood to be set at £33.7 million, but the German giants are not currently willing to relinquish that much money for Bellingham, and have proposed a package around the £25 million mark.
If the deal closes at the £33.7 million release clause mark, that would see Bellingham’s transfer smash Sunderland’s most expensive sales record.
However, due to the difference between valuations, transfer negotiations continue, as Dortmund race to complete the transfer before the Club World Cup takes place, and the mid-summer transfer deadline of June 10.
Bellingham will forever be held in high regard by Sunderland fans, and his final comments as a Black Cats player highlight how invested he was to the club.

Jobe Bellingham will leave Sunderland as a club legend
Bellingham will depart Sunderland having been an integral part of the Black Cats’ rise from the Championship back to the top flight.
The towering midfielder won the Championship Young Player of the Season, and his presence was sorely felt by Regis Le Bris this season, as his side failed to win any of the matches Bellingham missed through injury.
In the moments after the Wembley win, Bellingham told the Sky Sports cameras: “I always believed, you have to believe.
“When you’ve got supporters like this and a group of lads like that, you always have to believe.
“I’ve been part of this great team, and every player has made a name for themselves here. I’m really proud.”
Former Birmingham youngster Bellingham had an array of interested clubs targeting him last season, after Sunderland’s disappointing 16th finish, but he chose to stay and repay the faith shown in him from the club as well as the adoration from the fanbase.
Sunderland supporters couldn’t have asked for a better parting gift, than playing a pivotal role in the club’s promotion back to the Premier League promised land.
