Why Leicester City are ‘reluctant to progress talks’ with two potential Ruud van Nistelrooy replacements

A fresh update on Leicester City’s managerial situation has now emerged after one man was linked heavily this week.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed Leicester City manager in late November and has since seen the club relegated to the Championship.

Leicester would have to pay to sack Van Nistelrooy, who had previously enjoyed success in the Netherlands and during a very brief spell in interim charge of Manchester United.

Despite this, it does appear as though the legendary Premier League striker is going to be leaving the King Power Stadium this summer.

It was reported elsewhere on Wednesday that Russell Martin’s arrival at Leicester was imminent, but a new update on the situation suggests that’s not the case.

Why Leicester City are ‘reluctant to progress talks’ over Ruud van Nistelrooy replacement

Martin’s links to the Foxes and the managerial position have been well documented.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl is an option for Leicester as the German continues to flirt with an exit from Hillsborough.

Now, Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett has provided an update on the situation, in which he did confirm Martin and Rohl are being looked at.

However, he added that Leicester are reluctant to progress talks out of respect for Van Nistelrooy.

He wrote: “Ruud Van Nistelrooy expected to leave #lcfc after final game of the season, but Leicester yet to decide who they want to replace him.

“Russell Martin and Danny Rohl in the frame but club reluctant to progress talks with either out of respect for RVN, until his exit deal is agreed.”

How Ruud van Nistelrooy tried to keep his Leicester job

It looks almost certain that Ruud will be leaving the Foxes come the close of the Premier League campaign.

However, Van Nistelrooy did try to keep his role, doing a presentation to the club’s hierarchy recently, as transfer expert Graeme Bailey told us earlier this month.

He said: “Ruud van Nistelrooy did a very impressive presentation to the Leicester hierarchy and John Rudkin recently.

“I don’t think they’ve made up their minds yet. I think they’ve been impressed by what they’ve seen in recent weeks. I think they’ll assess it.”
