There is a great degree of uncertainty surrounding Leicester City right now, and EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal what is happening with the club’s pursuit of Russell Martin as their new manager.

After being relegated from the Premier League, Leicester City now need to prepare for another assault on the Championship and try to bounce back at the first time of asking.

For weeks now, one of the big changes expected to be made by the club this summer is to part ways with Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Russell Martin has long been tipped as the favourite to take over at the King Power Stadium, and a deal to make that happen was thought to be very close just days ago.

Things change very quickly in football, of course, and we can now reveal exactly what is going on regarding Martin’s potential move to Leicester.

Russell Martin to Leicester City latest, other managers want the job

In an EFL Analysis exclusive, our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey has the latest on Martin’s stance, and we are told the former Southampton boss has been waiting on Leicester to complete the appointment, with terms already agreed between the two parties.

However, the fact that Steven Gerrard’s proposed move to Rangers has fallen through has put the Scottish outfit back on Martin’s radar. It is said Rangers are an option Martin is considering, but the likes of Davide Ancelotti and former Ajax boss and Sunderland target, Francesco Farioli, are ahead of him in the running for that role.

Leicester have been made aware that Martin was still in the running for the Rangers job, but it is not a situation they are best pleased with.

Elsewhere, Liam Rosenior is someone Leicester admire, but BlueCo and Strasbourg are confident it would take a Premier League proposition to tempt him away from France at this stage.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl is still in contention, but it is widely expected he will return to Germany if he can secure an exit from the Owls, which is far from a given right now.

We are told one man who definitely does want the Leicester City job is Sean Dyche. The former Burnley and Everton manager has been out of work since January.

Leicester City have issues to resolve off the pitch ahead of crucial summer

The problems for Leicester City right now don’t merely come down to which manager they want in charge next season, as the Foxes deal with the fallout of PSR breaches.

It has been suggested Leicester face a minimum 12-point deduction ahead of the new season, which would obviously very seriously impact their hopes of a promotion back to the Premier League.

Still, we are told that Leicester shouldn’t be forced to sell any players this summer. In fact, we expect the Foxes to be given a healthy transfer budget, which should help any incoming manager claw back that deficit in the league table.
