Callum Wilson is a free agent and likely to be of interest to plenty of clubs in England.

Wilson made the decision to leave Newcastle United as a free agent after losing his place in the first team to Alexander Isak.

The 33-year-old is reportedly of interest to some Premier League clubs, with SunSport even claiming that Manchester United have been offered the England international forward on a free.

Now approaching the end of his career, Wilson will want to play as much as possible and the terms of the deal he wants with his new club should have Championship teams on red alert.

Callum Wilson wants a pay-as-you-play deal

Reports from The Sun suggest that Wilson wants his contract at his next club to be on a pay-as-you-play deal.

Before leaving the Magpies, Wilson was estimated to be earning £45,000 per week, but would prefer to be paid on a per-game basis.

A pay-as-you-play transfer is where wages are given to players on a game-by-game basis as opposed to a fixed salary.

This could benefit any of the the sides predicted to be in the Championship promotion race, who would be able to offer him regular game time.

Which Championship clubs should try and sign Callum Wilson?

Wilson will believe he still has a lot to offer in the Premier League, but there are still plenty of attractive options available in the league below.

An emotional return to Coventry City is one that could tempt Wilson but there is also the possibility of another Midlands club in Leicester City.

The rivalry between the two may put Wilson off from going to the King Power Stadium but with Jamie Vardy out of the picture and a new number nine required, the 33-year-old could see it as a glorious chance to start every week.

If he wanted to remain up north then Middlesbrough could also be considered as a viable option with Rob Edwards likely to be looking for a striker as the Teessiders continue their quest to find a suitable Emmanuel Latte Lath replacement.
