Five Josh Sargent replacements Norwich City should be considering in case star man leaves this summer

Norwich City are preparing for a big summer of change this summer.

Jack Wilshere could be handed the Norwich job permanently after impressing in the caretaker role following the Canaries’ decision to sack Johannes Hoff Thorup.

After an extremely disappointing campaign that saw Norwich finish in the bottom half of the Championship table, some of their star players are likely to be leaving Carrow Road.

Josh Sargent seems destined to depart after another prolific season in front of goal, scoring 15 times from 32 games.

It’s hard to replace talent like that and finding a goal scorer isn’t easy but, EFL Analysis has scouted out five targets that should be considered in the event the USA international leaves.

Five Josh Sargent replacements who could join Norwich City

Henry Martin – Club America

The player most like Sargent in terms of stats and output, the Mexican forward would be a rogue option for the Canaries but could prove to be a stroke of genius.

Averaging a goal or assist every 1.3 games, Henry Martin always has an impact in matches and would be the leading talisman.

Where Norwich may be hesitant is his age. At 32, Martin wouldn’t be the forward for the net five-10 years, and now in the latter stages of his career, may not be as keen to leave Mexico.

Fisnik Asllani – Elversberg (on loan from Hoffenheim)

Norwich have had success with German exports in the past after being the club that initially introduced Daniel Farke to English football.

Fisknik Asllani has been a machine in front of goal for 2. Bundesliga side Elversberg and is on loan from Hoffenheim, who have a plethora of options to select from.

The 22-year-old is likely to hit 20 goals for the season and his numbers will make him an in-demand forward.

Richard Kone – Wycombe Wanderers

Richard Kone’s availability may well depend on how Wycombe Wanderers fair in the League One play-offs, but his numbers say it all.

Plucked from non-league football, Kone has been a sharp shooter in front of goal and been one of the stars of the third tier.

Norwich would have to move quickly to get his signature and if they have to wait until Sargent leaves before making a move, they may well miss out on the forward.

Louis Munteanu – CFR Cluj

Louis Munteanu has been one of Romania’s youngsters tipped for great things but after things didn’t work out in Italy, returned to his homeland and this season has been incredible for CFR Cluj.

Munteanu loves to be the main man and if he came in to be Sargent’s replacement, he would be exactly that.

The Romanian top flight to the Championship would be a huge step-up, but after moving abroad at such a young age, this time he may be ready.

Casper Tengstedt – Hellas Verona (on loan from Benfica)

On paper, Casper Tengstedt has the poorest numbers and is likely to be the most expensive of the list.

Tengstedt is on loan at a Serie A who are sat 15th in the table and is by no means in the top scorers list but his record in the past at Norwegian side Rosenborg has reason to believe he can rediscover his form if his potential is unlocked.

The 24-year-old has plenty of experience around various European leagues and if he were to sign, he’d be one of the Championship’s leading names.
