The imminent arrival of Sergej Jakirovic could provide a lifeline to one Hull City player who was absent from the 2024/25 season.
Hull City are set to appoint Sergej Jakirovic as their new manager ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Acun Ilicali decided to sack Ruben Selles following last season, where the Tigers stayed up on goal difference.
The Hull City chief was not happy with the results in the business end of the season and expected Selles to have the Tigers clear of relegation as the final game took place.
As a result, Ilicali has once again turned to the Super Lig to find Selles’ successor, and that is set to arrive in the form of Jakirovic, who has previous experience in the Champions League.
Such an appointment could appease one Hull City star who was absent from the squad last season. There is no doubt that he could be offered another opportunity under him.

Sergej Jakirovic could hand opportunity to Hull City ace Abdus Omur this season
Last season, Hull City were significantly lacking in the final third, bagging a total of just 44 goals in the Championship, the lowest total in the division.
Jakirovic will be keen to ensure he has extra firepower in attack to put such an issue to rest, and his solution could be reinstating the first team spot of Abdus Omur.
Omur was a prominent player under Ruben Selles, but struggled for form, not being able to notch a single goal or assist in his 20 appearances before he was handed a short-term loan to Turkey.
The 14-cap Turkish attacking midfielder showed glimpses of promise in the 2023/24 season under Liam Rosenior, proving to be quick on the turn and a prominent player in a system that involves counter-attacking. If Jakirovic can get him back up to speed, he could become a crucial member of his side this season.

Acun Ilicali must do one thing this summer in addition to facilitating Omur return
Whilst many Hull fans would be keen to give Omur a second chance, especially after seeing how much the Tigers lacked creativity last season, that can’t simply be the sole solution.
Recruitment will need to be perfected this summer so that Jakirovic is provided with what he needs to meet Ilicali’s lofty ambitions.
There is no doubt that the Hull City owner will be expecting a top-six push this season, as he has done in previous campaigns. He needs to put his money where his mouth is, not only to spend significant cash, but do so with shrewd signings that will certainly perform at Championship level.
