The Championship is heading towards a frantic finale, and Millwall are one of several sides who have something to play for.
Millwall are still in the hunt for the Championship play-offs as Alex Neil’s men are three points behind sixth-place Coventry City.

The Lions are locked in a battle for one of the final two positions with tough assignments to come against Swansea City and Burnley.
An outside chance of finishing in the play-offs is something supporters would have been happy about before a ball was even kicked this term, and a stroke of fortune could see them gatecrash one of the final two spots.
The foundations of Millwall’s campaign have been built on their defensive solidity, most notably the dynamic duo of Japhet Tanganga and Jake Cooper.

Japhet Tanganga’s ambition is Premier League football
With Tanganga and Cooper at the heart of their back line, Millwall boast the sixth-best defence in the Championship this term.
The strength and physicality of Cooper, coupled with the technical excellence and pace of Tanganga, have allowed the Lions to look comfortable defensively.
Tanganga, formerly of Tottenham Hotspur, was captured on a free transfer in the summer and has proven to be an incredible bargain.
The 26-year-old has appeared 38 times in the second tier with his performances catching the eye of top-flight teams.
In the January transfer window, Wolves were tracking the Englishman, though Millwall held firm with their eight-figure valuation.
But, despite Neil holding onto his prized asset in the winter, he may fear the worst ahead of the summer as Tanganga has ambitions of playing Premier League football once more.
Speaking in November 2024, he said via the South London Press: “It’s definitely an ambition to get to the Premier League and there’s nothing wrong with ambition.
“You have to take it step-by-step. We had a hard summer with losing Matty [Sarkic] and we’re starting to gel together well now.”
Why Tanganga is destined for the Premier League
Tanganga recently swooped all three of the clubs end of season awards, including the Supporters Player of the Year, who recognised his outstanding displays.
The former Tottenham defender has been a dominant presence throughout and has flexed an array of his attributes, with his ability to read the game, recovery pace, and passing the clear stand outs.
Japhet Tanganga’s 2024/25 stats
- 38 games played
- 13 clean sheets
- 1.4 tackles per game
- 3.9 balls recovered per game
- 5.4 clearances per game
- 78% accurate passes
- 49.9 touches per game
A player this talented is only going in one direction, and that is up, with some Millwall fans perhaps accepting he will leave the club sooner rather than later.
