Southampton are preparing for a return to the Championship following relegation, and they could be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper to replace Aaron Ramsdale.

Southampton have taken a nosedive back into the Championship in record-breaking time, as their defeat to Tottenham saw them confirm relegation from the Premier League in game week 31.

The Saints are set for a summer of departures, with Southampton slapping a £100m price on tag on Tyler Dibling, and the young winger isn’t the only one being linked with an exit.

Manchester United have been linked with goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as they search for someone to challenge Andre Onana.

So, despite only arriving at St Mary’s last summer, Ramsdale could leave the club and here are three goalkeepers who could replace him.

Pierce Charles

Southampton are known for their possession-based style, or were used to that brand of football under the guidance of Russell Martin before his dismissal in December.

Ideally, they’ll want to sign a young, exciting goalkeeper who is comfortable on the ball, and Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles could tick that box.

Pierce, who is the younger brother of Saints midfielder Shea Charles, has flourished in his last four games for the Owls in the absence of James Beadle.

The 19-year-old has completed 93% of passes in his own half while saving 69% of shots, evincing his qualities between the sticks and demonstrating why Southampton should sign him.

Conor Hazard

Plymouth Argyle need to pull off an incredible escape to stay in the Championship, and should they fail, it could open the door for Conor Hazard to leave.

Despite playing for a side that faces a lot of shots, Hazard has stood up to the challenge this term, preventing the fourth-most goals of any goalkeeper in the second tier (6.43).

The 27-year-old is also great at playing the ball out of defence with an 84% average pass completion in his own half.

While the Saints have Gavin Bazunu in reserve once he returns from his loan at Standard Liege, Hazard is someone who can challenge at a side expected to chase promotion in 2025/26, ticking the boxes as being a solid goalkeeper.

Josh Keeley

Southampton could strike permanent deals for the above two, or dip into the loan market to replace Ramsdale this summer.

Josh Keeley, who is starring for League One side Leyton Orient from Tottenham, could be a realistic option.

The 21-year-old has kept an impressive 15 clean sheets in just 29 matches this term, seeing his heroics in goal get noticed by the rest of the EFL.

Keeley is a promising, young gloveman whose natural progression is to play in the Championship, with Southampton capable of handing him that opportunity.
