Middlesbrough sold Emmanuel Latte Lath in the 2025 winter transfer window and still need a long-term replacement.

After advice from Jonny Evans, Michael Carrick brought Kelechi Iheanacho to Middlesbrough over the winter as temporary cover for Emmanuel Latte Lath.

The striker seriously struggled in the first half of 2024/25 and was loaned from Sevilla to the Teessiders.

His stint in the North East really didn’t work out, however, with Boro still needing more competition for Tommy Conway up top.

Josh Coburn could be that man after impressing on loan at Millwall, but fresh legs may be desired by incoming manager Rob Edwards.

With this in mind, we have taken a look at three potential options Middlesbrough could sign to replace Latte Lath after his £22.5m transfer to Atlanta United.

Richard Kone

We shared earlier this week that Middlesbrough have done work on Richard Kone alongside Birmingham City.

It remains to be seen if he’ll actually be available this summer as Wycombe Wanderers are prepared to offer the attacker a historic contract to keep him around.

But stepping up to the Championship and attempting to push for Premier League promotion could be enough to lure him away from the Chairboys.

Kone had a superb 2024/25, scoring 18 League One goals and providing three assists in 41 appearances as Wycombe pushed for automatic promotion before missing out to Wrexham.

Carlton Morris

As managers sometimes do, Edwards could turn to his former club, Luton Town, to strengthen Boro’s forward line.

Carlton Morris arrived at Luton in 2022 and was an instrumental figure when Edwards and Co. won promotion to the Premier League.

He scored 20 and assisted six that season, and the incoming Boro boss would surely love to reunite with the 29-year-old.

Morris’ 2024/25 was less prolific, but eight goals and two assists is still a decent return in a side that suffered relegation.

Adam Armstrong

We previously reported that before Carrick decided to go with Iheanacho, Boro had a deal agreed with Southampton for Adam Armstrong.

The 28-year-old instead secured a temporary switch to West Brom, where he netted three times in 16 league matches.

Armstrong has a great overall record in the Championship, scoring 80 and assisting 33 in 248 matches.

But now the Saints are back in the second tier, it remains to be seen if they would be willing to sanction another exit for the centre-forward to a rival.
