What Harry Winks did after scoring for Leicester City tells you everything about his future

Leicester City’s Carabao Cup journey is over after they were beaten on penalties by Huddersfield Town.

Marti Cifuentes made a raft of changes to the starting XI that beat Sheffield Wednesday, with seven academy players starting for the Foxes.

Despite looking sluggish all night it was the visitors who took the lead with Hamza Choudhury’s sumptuous effort, before Daniel Vost equalised after following up on the rebound of Dion Charles’ saved penalty.

It didn’t take long before Leicester were back in front as Harry Winks scored three minutes later only for Cifuentes’ side to concede again before losing on penalties.

There was plenty to be concerned about for the Championship side, but the main talking point was all about Winks’ celebration.

Harry Winks hardly celebrates his goal for Leicester

Winks is a luxury player in the Championship.

Last time Leicester were in the division, the midfielder ran the show and became a fan favourite at the King Power Stadium.

Unfancied by Steve Cooper and Ruud van Nistelrooy, the latter experiencing off-field difficulties with the 29-year-old frozen out of the side completely towards the end of last season.

This season, Winks has come off the bench in both games so far and made a telling contribution.

It was evident that Winks changed the game against Wednesday and he got himself on the scoresheet at Huddersfield.

However, what was noticeable is that the celebration was subdued, even non-existent.

Barring a small smile to his teammates, it suggested that there may be an air of frustration about starting on the bench, or perhaps something more.

Harry Winks looks destined to leave Leicester

Before the opening game of the season, The Telegraph reported that three teams were interested in Winks.

His celebration in Yorkshire seemed to suggest that these rumours do have legs to them, and could even be far down the line.

It would be a real shame for the Foxes to lose a player as talented as the 29-year-old.

Wednesday night’s performance proved he is still the best centre midfielder at the club by some distance and while Cifuentes needs to cut down his squad, losing the more talented ones is only going to cause more issues.

However, that Winks goal seemed to look like a goodbye and it wouldn’t be remiss to say that it may be the last time he’s seen in a Leicester shirt.
