It’s over 12 years since Leicester City were crowned Champions of the Championship.
Led by Nigel Pearson, the Foxes were one of the best teams in Championship history, amassing an astonishing 102 points.
Big wins against rivals Derby County and wonder strikes against the likes of Blackpool all played a part in the title win, which also featured a number of players that would go on to be a part of the Premier League win in 2016.
The 2013/14 campaign was Jamie Vardy’s breakout year, and the January signing of Riyad Mahrez proved to be a big help in getting the Foxes over the line.
Things look very different and while only one of those players is still at the club to this day, only a handful are still playing.
With that, here is where the heroes of the Leicester City 2013/14 Championship title win are now.
Leicester City 2013/14 title winning squad
Kasper Schmeichel – Celtic
Kasper Schmeichel is a Leicester legend in his own right and was a superb member of the squad. He would continue to be the Foxes’ number one for many more years, saving penalties in the Champions League and winning the FA Cup in 2021.
Schmeichel left Leicester in 2023, the same season they were relegated, to join Nice. A short spell on the French Rivieria and with Anderlecht passed by before he reunited with Brendan Rodgers in 2024, winning a domestic double in his first season.
Ritchie De Laet – Retired
Ritchie De Laet was the first-choice right-back in the title-winning season and proved to be a shrewd piece of business. Pearson used his Manchester United contacts to bring in a number of former academy players. which paid off.
De Laet would fall out of favour under Claudio Ranieri but is one of the few players to win two league title medals in the same season after being on loan at Middlesbrough the year Leicester won the Premier League.
He played for Aston Villa before heading to his native Belgium, signing for Royal Antwerp. In his final season as a player, he helped Antwerp end a 66-year wait to win the Belgian Pro League before retiring in 2023.
Marcin Wasilewski – Broadcaster
Marcin Wasilewski was the beast at the back who was borderline impossible to get past.
The big Polish defender joined on a free from Anderlecht and was tasked with stopping an attack by any means necessary. He was never really first choice after promotion but proved to be reliable and popular among fans and players.
He ended his career by returning to Wisla Krakow and is now regularly spotted on Polish TV working as a sports broadcaster. Wasilewski did also try to become an MMA fighter, but that never took off.
Wes Morgan – Pundit/Scout
Captain Wes Morgan was the heartbeat of the Leicester side. Signed from Nottingham Forest for £1m in 2012, Morgan is one of the best value-for-money signings of all time.
He was there through it all for the Foxes and ended his career in the best way possible, lifting the FA Cup trophy.

It is no coincidence that he was a mainstay in Leicester’s side during their golden era, and why they may have struggled since his departure.
Morgan now works as a pundit on some occasions for Sky Sports, but also as an academy scout for Forest.
Paul Konchesky – Coach/Manager
Paul Konchesky joined the Foxes in 2011 and was the first choice left-back until the Premier League years.
Capable of scoring a long-range piledriver every now and then, the defender looked certain to leave in the summer of the title-winning season, only to extend his deal in January 2014.
Since retiring, Konchesky has been in a variety of ventures that includes owning a cafe named Konch’s cafe, as well as various coaching roles.
His most high-profile was when he had a brief spell as manager of West Ham United’s women’s team.
Riyad Mahrez – Al Ahli
The second of three players still plying their trade these days, and one of the best bargains in football history.
Riyad Mahrez joined midway through the 2013/14 season as an unknown talent for £400k. Everyone soon knew who he was with his amazing trickery and breathtaking flair.
He transformed into one of the best players in the world and was sold to Manchester City for over £60m, playing a crucial role in their dominance in English football.
As he approaches the latter stages of his career, the Algerian is now in Saudi Arabia, playing for Al Ahli.
Andy King – Leicester City coach
Andy King is the only member of the side to still be involved with the Foxes on a day-to-day basis.
King won League One, the Championship and Premier League with the Foxes and is classed as one of the best to wear the shirt.
Leaving Leicester so late in his career, the former Wales international only played at a handful of clubs but is now back at the King Power Stadium working as a first-team coach.
Danny Drinkwater – Retired
Danny Drinkwater had superb potential and was one of the best midfielders in the country on his day. Most remember him for his 2015/16 performances, but the former Man United man ran the show and could score from distance plenty of times.
His career took a downward trajectory after leaving to join Chelsea, where he never really managed to recover from endless setbacks.
Drinkwater chose to retire and is now enjoying his life away from the football pitch with his own personal interests.
Anthony Knockaert – Retired
Anthony Knockaert may well be the most popular name from this XI that played in the 2013/14 squad.
The Frenchman was an instant fan favourite when he joined from Guingamp and was a box of tricks.
This season was a particular highlight as he buried the demons of his play-off semi-final penalty miss with a goal against Watford, as well as scoring the goal in the game that ultimately sealed promotion.
Knockaert is now retired and also enjoying life away from football.
David Nugent – Pundit
Loved by plenty of Championship clubs, David Nugent is the epitome of bagsman in this division.
Nugent signed for the Foxes as a free agent and ended up as the top scorer that season with 20.
The one-time England forward had some spells in the lower leagues after leaving Leicester but still works semi-regularly with the Foxes as a pundit on their official social media channels.
Jamie Vardy – Cremonese
Last, but by no means least, Mr Jamie Vardy. This season proved to be his breakout year and the rest, as they say, is history.
Vardy’s goals have laid the foundations for plenty of success at the King Power Stadium and even though his final season culminated in relegation to the Championship.

He ended his time with the Foxes on 500 appearances and 200 goals and it seemed like he wasn’t going to find a club until Vardy joined Cremonese.
