Upon Coventry City’s elimination from the Championship play-offs, their fans’ attention will have turned to next season and building their squad to return to the Premier League.

Coventry City went on a phenomenal run of form under Frank Lampard which saw them reach the Championship play-offs, leaving fans to only dream about what could be possible if the squad was built upon.

However, this would mean they would also have to retain their star players in order to make a push for the Premier League.

One of their star players that looks destined for an exit is Jack Rudoni, who is likely to move to the Premier League.

While another of those being linked away is Haji Wright, a player who scored crucial goals for the club and excited fans over the past two seasons.

Rumours have started to circulate that the USA international may be leaving Coventry for a Turkish adventure, and fans have shared their feelings regarding the news.

Coventry fans react to the prospect of a Haji Wright exit

Coventry winger Haji Wright has apparently been offered to five Turkish giants, including Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş.

The 27-year-old has been a player to get fans out of their seats over the past two seasons, which will explain their reaction to the news about Wright’s potential exit.

Fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their thoughts, as one fan said: “I’d be gutted. We’d need a huge fee. Harder to find strikers of Haji’s talent than people on this app think.”

One fan added to the sentiment, as he believes Frank Lampard will get the best out of him, as he said: “Nice to see somebody who realises you can’t just find a striker on demand who can bag you twenty goals in the championship. He may be frustrating at times, but I fully believe Frank and co. can get the best out of him.”

While another fan thinks he is a quality player the club can’t lose, as they said: “I want him to stay, as I think he’s our best natural forward on and off the ball. If he can stay fully fit next season, he’s going to smash it.”

While there were also a number of fans who believe it may be worth selling him to Turkey for the right price.

One fan said: “100% agree. Unless we make a big profit, we don’t sell.”

While other fans believe he has promised a lot but failed to deliver, as one fan said: “My biggest concern is that I’m not sure he can play the number 9 role Lampard wants him to play. I’m hoping he just wasn’t fully fit in the run-in and Lampard asked him to play through it. Unplayable against Sunderland in the league game but a complete passenger in most other games.”

Haji Wright’s time at Coventry City

Coventry acquired the American from Turkish Super League club Antalyaspor, where he spent two seasons during his career.

His 29 goals across the two seasons are what attracted the interest of the Championship side, and so he joined Coventry for a club record fee, at the time, of €9 million.

Wright has amassed one goal less during his two years with the English club than he did in the same time while with Antalyaspor.

The striker clearly has an eye for goal; it will just be whether Lampard can make him more clinical at the Championship level and utilise him in a manner to fit the manager’s tactics.
