Derby County may have answer to their winger issues as the Rams show ‘interest’ in Champions League winner

Derby County are starting to knuckle down in the transfer window.

The Rams have now made seven signings this summer, and work is being done to ensure that the team is as strong as possible ahead of their first Championship fixture a week on Saturday away to Stoke City.

Ebou Adams praised John Eustace after the East Midlands outfit avoided relegation on the final day of last season, but lessons have been learned following a tough winter period and positivity is spreading at Pride Park.

However, there is one issue that Derby must still address. Joe Ward could help answer Eustace’s wing problems, but there is another ace on the radar that could add further firepower to the flanks.

Derby County target Rhian Brewster after Sheffield United exit

Rhian Brewster’s Sheffield United contract came to an end at the end of last season, with EFL Analysis revealing earlier in July that Middlesbrough are interested in the ex-Liverpool youngster.

However, it has now emerged that the attacker is being targeted by Derby. According to BBC Radio Derby’s Dominic Dietrich, the Rams do have an ‘interest’ in the 25-year-old.

He scored four goals and registered three assists in 39 Championship matches last season, his best return since the 2019/20 campaign when he played his football for Swansea City.

Brewster picked up a medal for Liverpool when they won the Champions League in 2019, although he did not play a minute in the competition for the Reds that year.

Corey Blackett-Taylor has impressed out wide, but there is not a lot of depth at Derby on the flanks, with Kayden Jackson the only other option for that position.

Brewster, after coming through the ranks as a striker, started to be used a right-winger at points last season, as well as just in behind the number nine.

This will be of huge interest to Eustace, as this versatility will help provide cover with Derby having a few injury problems this summer.

Wages will always be a concern, but Brewster is in need of a fresh start and working under a manager who gets the best out of his players will be a huge pull.
